Was the cover of that song Herman's Hermits' breakout hit?
"I'm Into Something Good" was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Released on July 4, 1964 by Earl-Jean of The Cookies. Covered by Herman's Hermits on July 26, 1964. It was their first single & hit.
Earl-Jean's version peaked at Billboard #38. Herman's version peaked at Billboard #13.

Looks like him. I never used to watch his show, but my grandmother was totally in love with him!
I saw him mainly on Ed Sullivan. He must have been on almost as much as Wayne and Shuster.
