At one point every fire truck in the city was stuck in the snow

Best explanation I have heard so far…. The people of Buffalo are used to snow storms, and accustomed to driving in it…. They thought it was just another snow storm.

I made the mistake of thinking I could drive through Buffalo Christmas Eve after midnight. Route 62 from the south up. Looked apocalyptic. Once I hit the industrial/commercial area…. Semi’s and cars abandoned everywhere. Roads were not passable. My “shortcut” cost me well over an hour.

It's really easy to be complacent. It's so easy to get stuck in anything, and if you don't have a means to call for help (no cell, or signal), you could easily die.

Reminds me of a really tragic story about a man and his family who got stuck in snow. The man went to get help, but froze to death. Such a tragic story.

Looks like Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown (D) is getting heavily criticized by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz (D) for a perceived lack lustre clean up response from The City of Buffalo.

^^^Hearing from friends that live there I think they should have called in the Guard before it got out of hand. They are equipped with some specialized 6x6's & tracked vehicles that go through stuff nothing else will. A friend that works in the fire services said the 911 calls that came in for people stranded we're in the hundreds & there was nothing they could do to reach them. The flip side to this is people have to take storm warnings like this more seriously. When they tell you over the radio, tv, cell phone heavy snow, 70mph+ winds, zero visibility, - single digit temps is coming get the fack off the road & into shelter. People that live in the north & extreme cold know how to deal with this & respect the elements. Poor girl from Atlanta that finished her nursing shift was found in crocs & scrubs in her car...that's Georgia winter attire not Buffalo. Tragic & heartbreaking but preventable. My heart goes out to the families that lost a love one in this. Changes & lesson's have to be learnt from this.
