The problems faced by black people in Southern States are the same as in US inner cities, where they are over represented. Poor prospects, no jobs, poor education, no hope, and lingering apartheid.

Buit the stats stand. Major US inner cities have a lot more people than over in hick states. 5% of US counties have most of the US gun crime; this is not a rate but an absolute number. Some of these counties may be in Southern States, not necessarily all Northern States. New Orleans can be a very dangerous place, if one doesn't watch where they're going.

To reiterate to those still interested, taking those 5 counties out results in the US having gun related homicide rates comparable to other OECD countries, Louisiana included.

But the point I'm trying to make is that folks in a non inner city environment - be they rural, city, suburban, black or white, redneck of professional - are pretty handy with guns too. And this is especially so in the South which has a history of rough and ready justice.

Now your point - which is that Canada and the US have the same rate of gun crime if you subtract inner city blacks - is not supportable. The facts simply don't back you up.

Wont matter if the courts are so jammed packed that they can't keep up with all the needs.

The truth of the matter is that the legal infrastructure in the province is far too small and over stressed. We need more everything. More court houses, more judges, more court staff, more crown attorneys, more jails, more system. Part of the reason we let violent criminals go after 30 days is simply the cost to keep them.

Sad but true.

There is no simple solution, no one panacea to make it all better. Identifying and focusing resources where the problem lies, and identifying the source of those problems instead of worrying about political correctness, might be a start.

That's attacking the problem too late. Addressing the parenting skills of certain pockets (somehow) would be a more proactive approach. One would need to see if there's a certain demographic more prone to gun violence How to pull that off is a great question.

Even though the media mainly advertises BLACK / JAMAICAN / WEST INDIE gang members.
