tml, you got any experience yourself on the ice? All I did was the ice hockey program when I was kid and couldn't commit because of school. I even forgot how to skate now, it's quite depressing...
Unfortunately not on ice. Thousands of hours playing street hockey, though.

I like Matthews, but he needs to be surrounded by better talent. I like Nylander, but find him frustrating due to uneven efforts. Keep both and make the team around them better.
He is the talent ! He is supposed to elevate the players he plays with !

The problem for me is they make over 10 million $$ a season each. And besides the powerplay they don't even really play together very often. How can you pay 2 guys that much and have very little chemistry between them? Doesn't make sense to keep either one

I did their sim lottery thingy five times.
Leafs came up 6th , 6th, 1st, 5th, 6th.
Eesh.
Odds are 58.2% pick goes to Boston or roughly 3 out of 5 times.
You don't need to do a sim.
The pick is effectively Boston's and Leafs need to get lucky.

Not defending Brad one bit. After all nothing was dumber than a top 10 protected first for a 3rd line centre.
... and Leafs converted him into a 4th line center.
There's also Grebenkin who's only 22.

Completely irrelevant to the discussion happening here, so my apologies but anyone besides me want Matthews outta here? Don't get me wrong, he's got the talent but not the grit. I'm a Nylander fan and it's frustrating see how careless Matthews tends to get sometimes. I mean the attitude of the team during that knee injury exposed everything wrong with them. This isn't Canadian bias, I genuinely feel like seeing a new face for our cap can be worth a try...
A Nylander fan does not need to apologize.

The best team in hockey right now has Mac and Mak. They are surrounded by Necas, Nelson, Kadri, Landeskog, Nichushkin, Lehtonen, Toews and they traded a 1st for Roy.

I'm predicting THe Wild will take down The AVS.
Sure, the President's Trophy winner more often does not win the Cup.
Chicago was the last and that was in in 2013. 13 years ago.
Favourites don't always win.

Minny's best players are performing in the playoffs.
Kaprizov 9 pts in 5 games +9
Boldy 4 goals in 5 games +6
Hughes 5 pts in 5 gams +7
Faber 3 goals in 5 games for a defenseman +8
Eriksson 3 goals in 5 games +5

How? unless you plan on trading your top 5 pick this summer (if you get it)

- Lack of prospects to come up or trade.
- Lack of NHL youth below 25 on the team (organic growth)
- Lack of draft picks to trade
- Have some cap space, but so do many teams this summer... in an underwhelming FA class.

I think Matthews has already played his best hockey. That doesn’t mean he can’t still be effective, I just can’t see him being as dominant as he once was. I think trading him now should be a priority. I would trade Willy too even though I think he has a good chance at being a dominant elite winger for years to come. It was a 10yr run with these guys and it’s time for change. It can be a fairly quick turnaround with the right draft picks and a smart savy GM.

just stumbled on this thread and I like it boys! Good stuff

Expect MLSE to name Sundin and Chayka as the new Leafs GM and president of hockey operations on Monday or sometime soon.

If they really hire Chayka, I'm gonna stop watching Leaf games until they're serious about building a team again. It's the fkn Toronto Maple Leafs and THAT is the best you can do for a GM?
