Playoffs Florida had 5 players between 22 and 23 points. Basically their top 2 lines and Bennett won the Conn Smythe with 22 pts. Their 3rd line starting with Marchand had 20, 19, and 18 pts.

The plan for Tavares should be to slot him as their 3rd line center. They tried to make Nylander the 3rd line second twice and it didn't work. They tried trading for Laughton as their 3rd line center and that didn't work. Neither Domi or Holmberg should be their 3rd line center. Kampf is definitely not a 3rd line center. Leafs have just under 7 million from Tavares reduced salary to get themselves a second line center. Nylander doesn't need an 11 million center to play with. He should be able to play with a 7 million dollar center. Kadri is a 7 million dollar center so a player like him should work. Conn Smythe winner Bennett is a newly minted 8 million dollar 2nd line center.

Matthews and an upgraded salary Knies shouldn't need a 14 million dollar winger. They should be able to carry a 7 million dollar winger. Hyman for example is a 5.5 million dollar winger. Neither of Florida's top 2 lines has a 14 million dollar winger.

True, then I'll rephrase it, Florida doesn't have any winger in their top 2 lines making over 10 million in no state tax dollars.

Yes, I do realize. Zito ain't no Dubas. One likes mean, sneaky dirty and the other likes small and soft. Zito traded their soft points leader on a President's Trophy team to make a DNA change. Dubas didn't trade his soft points leader and let his no move kick in for Treliving. Conveniently same time his own contract expired. He may be a genius after all for self preservation.

I never said it was. There are other tax free states that didn't win the cup.
I'm pointing out Leafs need 3 lines not 2.

That's an excellent contract. He's 22 and already showing power and speed and he's huge and we all know Treliving is leaning towards bigger being better. Contract takes him to age 28. For comparison Bennett is 29 and his contract is 8 million for 8 years taking him to age 37. Regular season Knies had more goals and more assists. Knies has everything you want for the playoffs. Other than sneaky dirty I suppose.

That's good management. Not a tax break. Barkov and Tkchuk signed 2 years ago with a tighter cap. Both are at $10. Florida's goalie also makes $10. Now imagine if Dubas was the GM.

Similar to what Florida did Leafs are buying low on Maccelli. He has scored 49 pts in 64 games and another time 57 pts in 82 games. Knies had 58 pts. Only 5 forwards scored more than 34 pts for the Leafs this past season. Which shows their lack of depth scoring. He's more of a passer. If he plays with Nylander and Tavares or even Matthews he could certainly hit 51 plus pts. He's only 24. Second youngest player after Knies.

--TSN reporting Leafs signed Marner to a 8 year $12 million/yr contract and then traded him to Vegas. According to Bob McKenzie, Nicholas Roy will be coming back to the Leafs.
--They are also reporting the Leafs re-signed Lorentz to a 3 year contract, for about $1.3 million/yr.
--Leafs did not offer Holmberg a qualifying offer.
