The Leafs making the Playoffs are greater odds than Matthews winning the Calder. Laine is a lock to win calder because Matthews and Marner split the votes, plus there is Werenski from Columbus.Leafs make the playoffs and Matthews wins Calder.
Bold and wishful thinking, I know.
Not disagreeing with the odds, but if the Leafs make th playoffs and Matthews plays a key role, wouldn't you think his chances will be good regardless what Laine does if the Jets don't ? Although previous Calder winners were not always on playoff teams. I do agree that Werenski looks to be the favorite at the moment. The Leafs making the Playoffs are greater odds than Matthews winning the Calder. We have a choice. We can delete the "be" or we can make it "fielding". Your call.Jays will be field a weaker roster??
Just saw this.I know, I'm just messing with him :biggrin1:
Pure speculation, obviously, but I think AM is better odds than the playoffs. The Leafs making the Playoffs are greater odds than Matthews winning the Calder. Laine is a lock to win calder because Matthews and Marner split the votes, plus there is Werenski from Columbus.
I get your point that they shouldn't trade the future for present veteran help for a playoff push, and I don't believe they will; but they've been getting very good goaltending from Andersen since the first dozen games and they've been in almost every game since. The Leafs will not make the playoffs, not if they want to be a legit Stanley Cup contender they wont.
.
If they make the playoffs this year it may be a step back. They are two defensemen away from being a legit Cup contender. Who knows Zaitsev may be one of those, he's still getting used to the smaller rink. But first they have to secure him with a long term contract. And they still need one that can take out the garbage around the crease. Look at what Popeye Jr is doing for the Columbus Blue Jackets.I get your point that they shouldn't trade the future for present veteran help for a playoff push, and I don't believe they will; but they've been getting very good goaltending from Andersen since the first dozen games and they've been in almost every game since.
The next big factor will be how well the rookies can handle the long grind of the 82 game schedule. If the continue to develop as expected and with good goaltending like they've been getting, I'd say they have a decent shot.
However, if the Jays fail to improve the outfield from where it stands at the moment, which is Pillar and little else, you may secure one of the corner outfield positions. As I see it you won't cost them a lot and you would be an improvement over at least one of them.:wave:I predict I will not make the MLB this year and become Blue Jays starting pitcher
How do you know I won't cost them a lot??However, if the Jays fail to improve the outfield from where it stands at the moment, which is Pillar and little else, you may secure one of the corner outfield positions.
