I disagree with Sharapova, her sponsorships are worldwide, Americans hardly identify with her even though she's lived in the US since age 6. Henderson is a pretty girl but doesn't play the sex symbol roll like others do. Muricans won't follow her as much on a Sunday if shes on the leader board, are theRe any good female murican golfers now, don't follow it.

Don't ever see her doing those swim suit photo shoots like many of the tennis players, but have any golfers done those. A lot depends on her staying power, look at spieth and macelroy, once they start not winning their names aren't mentioned as much.

Was steve Nash ever as big as curry, same stats pretty much.
I'm not talking about fervent nationalistic pride, just causal LPGA fans and American sponsors. Do you really think Nike golf or Callaway, wouldn't love to sponsor her and make her the face of women's golf in N. America. The fact that she's Canadian, doesn't mean she wouldn't sell in America, especially if she keeps winning. She's a white Canadian, not Korean, she will be accepted in America. Of course, not as beloved as much in her home country. Don't know if she wants to sell or be looked at as a sex symbol.

As for Steve Nash, he never won a title or even got to the NBA Finals. He won two MVP's, but many(including me) felt one of those MVP's, should have gone to Kobe! Plus Curry is a much better scorer, than Nash ever was, Nash only avg. 14ppg. Nash was a great player, but being white probably hurt his popularity more than being Canadian, in the NBA world.

I disagree Brooke has "apple pie" appeal to Americans, she'll do for the LPGA what Tiger Woods did for men's golf.

Unless Genie Bouchard wins a Slam, Brooke will eventually make more money in endorsements. And she's from Smith Falls a lovely little town just off the scenic Hwy 7 drive from Havelock to Ottawa.

And she had at least 3 bunker saves in the middle of her round as well. It was just clutch shot after clutch shot. It was really compelling one on one battle. I was stunned that Ko missed the putt on 17.
That 95' eagle she made was just magical, and all those par saves were just clutch! I really thought Ko would pull it out in the end, before the playoff, but she missed that short birdie put. I was pulling for Ariya Jutanugarn, but she finished Third...
All that and everything about that finish was must see TV! Actually had to break away just as BH knocked it into woods on 18 and LK had stuffed it on 17. Came back and saw Ko teeing off on 18 and score box showed them still tied! Rewind PVR and saw that sequence and never left it again! Yes, still can't believe she missed that putt.....it would be amazing if she can defend this week but if she misses cut I'd understand!!!

Too bad about bouchard, would have been nice to follow them both, looks like her career has stalled, hard to say if she can recover. Of course Henderson will get sponsors but muricans will never fully embrace her imo, who cares though if they don't.

Bouchard got caught up in the Glam aspect with the TV star following her around for a while, he seemed to have dumped her now though, Henderson seems more focused, plus bouchard simply isn't strong enough.

If she plays this week, I have no doubt she will make the cut. She is consistently finishing in the top 10, you can't win every tournament, but being near the top all the time, proves she's already a great golfer. Don't forget she got a hole-in-one, on a par 3 and won a car. A star is born!

Brooke and Genie's backgrounds are total different.

Brooke is small town homespun, she'll take nothing for granted. Genie is Westmount old money. Her lineage dates back to The French and Indian War and possibly beyond. She got caught up in in the Holllywood life and got ill in early 2015. She lost her way but with The Calabrese back as her coach she'll improve.

I don't know anything about Genie's background, but wasn't Brooke's father a pro hockey player. So let's not get carried away, like she grew up in the ghetto or something. Unless I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure Brooke grew up in comfortable household.

Nice, mjg1 but that's not what I meant. In fact Brooke grew up in an idyllic a setting as one could hope for.

Brooke made her triumphant return on Tim and Sid - so they tied Tim down.

Well for the first time, I believe this year, Brooke missed the cut. She's almost all ways near the top, so this was a bit surprising.

Lydia Ko is just amazing, if she had more power, to go with her short game and putting. She might could go down, as the greatest female golfer of all-time. She might end up being that anyway.

Well she has won another Tournament, this one in Oregon, and is now the #2 female golfer in the world. Although she won from start to finish, many of the top Asian players didn't precipitate in this event. I think next week is a major for the LPGA.

That would be the US Women's Open! Brooke has played the most tournaments of anyone on tour this year and plans to play continuously through Olympics and Canadian stops through the Evisn before taking a break! Something like 12 tournaments in a row. Hope she doesn't get burned out!

Wouldn't have played this week as is week before major but this was where she was defending champion from her first pro victory. Olympics playing havoc with schedule for men and women!

Didn't play her best but testament to her level of excellence right now, she still closed it out! Well done, Brooke and keep her going!

Wouldn't have played this week
Just as you know what would be best for you, I suspect she and her handlers know better than any of us what is best for her.

Uh, Shack, your petulance precedes you. :beaten::yell: Why're you such an angry and obnoxious poster on this board! Thanks for allowing me to be a target!! Always an honour to be SHACKED! Anyways, bud, please research Brooke and her comments on her schedule from the start of this run. That's why only 4 of the top 30 in the world played in Portland. Handlers were aware but with Olympic year schedules have to be rejigged but Brooke wanted to honour her commitments. Not only a star but well on her way to mature adulthood which is something you Shack must have your bucket list!:peace::thumb:

My point stands. I am sure her team took all factors into consideration.

If she was not the defending champion she likely would have skipped last week's event. But it is strictly adhered to unwritten rule that a defending champion returns to defend the title. And given that Brooke is comfortable playing a lot I am sure it hardly impacted her.

Is Brooke currently the favourite for Canadian Athlete of the Year? I know it's an Olympic year, so there may be an athlete that is dominating their under the radar sport and if they win the Olympics they become strong candidates as well. Sidney Crosby also had a great year (2nd in Hart, Conn Smythe, Cup) so he is probably the favourite amongst the major sports. But if Brooke wins the Gold (or even a medal), combined with a major win, and another win, she has to be in great shape for the award.

Brooke did not have a good 1st rd at the U.S. Open, she is 4 over par. She will need a good Friday rd to make the cut.

Well a penalty once again casts a shadow over the end of a US OPEN. In this case legit, and no questionable judgment by the USGA.

A 2 shot penalty for grounding a club in a sand trap was called during the second of a 3 hole playoff. It was unintentional, but unlike Dustin Johnson's putting call there was no controversy. This is a black and white rule with little judgment -- you saw the club move some sand.

But similar to Dustin's penalty, the USGA botched the penalty process. The penalty took place on the 17th, it was shown on Fox before the 18th, and it took until after the 3rd shot of Anna N. to let them know. Problem is Lang only had taken 2 shots on the final hole. The players could have played the 3rd shots totally different if they knew or didn't know the rules..... you can't let one player take the 3rd shot and then let the other no before taking the 3rd shot. Absurd timing.

And I believe the USGA president (Diane Murphy) is drunk or high on OXY or something. She once again screwed up the ceremony, like she did at the Men's Open, constantly referring to the champion Brittany Lang as Bethany Lang.

USGA once again comes across as amateur hour on the final day, although this was not nearly as bad as the US Men's Open.
