Either the bus driver or truck driver is careless. T-bone accidents don't happen unless one side is doing something stupid.

I'll take a guess the truck driver was the idiot.

Watching the helicopter fly-by, the crash scene is huge. No doubt the rig was travelling extremely fast. You don't get that kind of carnage from a typical t-bone accident between two cars at an intersection.

The corners show some stop signs too, but hard to see if all of them have one of if some of them were knocked down, but you can see at least one stop sign still up in tact on one of the corners.

So either the trucker blew through a stop sign at highway speed, or perhaps his side has no stop signs (right of way), while the bus driver's road had stop signs but he didn't stop.

Either way, some careless driving from at least one side. The intersection is a quiet looking country road with good visibility. You should be able to see what vehicles are driving perpendicular to you by glancing left or right.

From what I heard on the news, the bus was going north bound on highway 35. The truck was going west bound on highway 335. Highway 335 is stop signed control west bound and east bound. Highway 35 is the main road and has the right of way. It looks like the truck went thru the stopped sign intersection,

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense. Watching the helicopter fly-by it didn't look like some sides had stop signs at all (and not because the vehicles crashed through them).

Looks like this intersection has had some previous deaths per the google street view.

Wonder of the sun played a role...

Tragedy.

Plus it unfortunately looks like the only trees in probably 100kms are on the southwest corner of that intersection.
May be a contributing blind spot factor as the transport could not be seen until it was out on 35.

My thoughts & prayers go out to all the families(including host families)of those kids & the team staff. No words can describe that kind of loss. You boys will always be remembered by your hockey brethren.

Very somber day at the local arena & after sharing a couple pints following the game tonight a few of us that played Jr A & Jr B reflected on some of the funny stories of our road trips & the shit weather we traveled in & the gracious hosts we got to stay with. Weird thing is everyone said the same thing....that could of been anyone of us

RIP Boys

My memory could be fuzzy here. There was a time I occasionally
commuted long distance on regional roads by coach. I seem to
remember the bus would slow down and stop when approaching
an intersection irrespectively of presence or absence of a stop
sign. Not to blame the victim but I suppose in this case it
was prudent for the bus driver to stop at the intersection
even if he had the right of way.

Absolutely heartbreaking for all of those involved. Hard to imagine the pain. From the initial reports, sounds like the transport truck blew the stop sign.

The GoFundMe set up to support the families had a goal of $10,000. It's topped $6.0 million and counting. That goes to show the number of people this event has touched, from around the world.

RIP

Crash victim and survivor misidentified. I can totally understand how the coroner made a mistake. Again, feel sorry for the families.

Yes but the bus driver should of been looking for someone to blow the intersection IMHO. Passengers have no set belts or air bags and buses are not designed for such an impact

Of course truck driver is at fault but so is the bus driver. With a bus load of people he has to be practising extreme defensive driving so he should of made sure the truck was slowing or better yet completely stopped

Same argument for getting t boned at a stop light. Look before proceding even though you have right of way. It is called defensive driving

If I get into a accident at work I have to be not at fault and accident non preventable (ie side swipe, rear ended)

I suspect truck was driving into the setting sun. Did bus driver consider that? I always do as a result of defensive driving training.

Why isnt anyone talking about the east Indian truck driver and his credentials?

If he wasnt in our country, this wouldnt have happened.

They drive the same way here as they do in their country. Just look at what happened with the paki who hit the skyway bridge!
