In what year ( -/+ 5 years ) was the last bi-plane used as a military air plane in daily military defense?
Sorry if this has been answered already.

A squadron of Fairey Swordfish bi-planes from HMS Ark Royal fired the torpedoes that disabled the rudder of the German battleship Bismarck, leading to its sinking. That was in 1941, so I'll say 1942 would have been the last year.
If you're including military patrols, as distinct from military action against the enemy, I'd guess that was much later. 1960, maybe?

In WWII biplanes were called into service by many counties on both the Allied and Axis sides ( mainly because they already had them ), but mostly for less important roles. The Portuguese were the last to use bi-planes as the main air support until 1956. When generals from the visiting Spanish military were seen snickering and pointing at the antiquated aircraft, new aircraft were quickly ordered.

Which Toronto Blue Jays practical joker used to dispatch rookies to the clubhouse to retrieve the key to the batter's box or a bucket of steam, at spring training?
Has to be Joe Carter. That dude pulled pranks all the time.
