CBC interviewed a sports writer who went to the recent Messi match using the GO train (I wish I could remember exactly from where) and he was saying that it was a TOTAL MESS, so expectation is for the World Cup to be MUCH worse. Maybe best to completely avoid match days at least!
I’m avoiding downtown from the start of the World Cup until about July 2nd which I believe is the last game to be played in Toronto

I think that's why Metrolinx has been cramming in so much track work over the last few weeks.

I got together with a lady I see regularly last weekend and of course, Metrolinx, in their infinite wisdom, decided to shut down the Kitchener line on a long weekend so I had to take a bus to the 407 subway station. I also didn't learn about it until the last minute. The funny thing is that I go to the gym on Fridays and watch CP24 while I'm doing cardio. There were no announcements.

On the plus side, I discovered that there's a subway station there and it's on the University line.

I have used this 407 route to get to the Airport for example and to admit that it is "not that bad" at all, big question is of course how things will be handled for the big events upcoming, and from what this interview was saying / you are reporting / some other things I've seen and read, not looking great  Let's see of course hopefully will not be a "disaster", I seem to recall that sports writer got to the Messi match from Hamilton using the GO train.

The reason that pre-bookings are down is likely due to the cost. Try to book a downtown hotel on June 12 and take a look at the prices. Insanity.
I booked the trip I just returned from a few months ago. My Marriott Residence Inn Mississauga, I still have the pricing sheet when I looked up 6 nights, but actually booked for 8 - returned a week ago to Phoenix.

The 6-night sheet, when returned on 5/17 (but got started 2 days earlier for 8 nights), was $1049, which will double this coming week, then almost triple to $3k+ starting May 31 and for June. I saw the huge increase, so I avoided it by taking a trip before the rate ramp-up.

Good for you! And to think that traffic chaos and the temporary seats in BMO field that sway with the winds from Lake Ontario, are awaiting those who will pay the huge prices! OOOKKK

Given all the fans who will come from foreign countries to Toronto for the matches here, and even given "safe" sex, I wouldn't want to risk catching something imported from another country during their visits.

And I would probably wait a month or so after to resume hobbying, just to allow for any STD incubation period to expire...

This didn't occur to me at all. I gonna skip hobby until August-September.

I remember when BMO field was first ERECTED. They used Viagra !
Anyways. My first experience there when they opened the stadium was for the TfC and I remember all the fans being very much rowdy. The following off season they had to reinforced the stands because bolts and nuts were cumming lose
