Shocked nobody posted anything on this until now.
Likely the worst SOTU speech I have ever witnessed. Dementia Joe, pumped up on Red Bull and caffeine, angrily ranting for over an hour. Still stumbling over his words and at times not making any sense whatsoever.
Biden was pandering to his leftist base because they have been none too happy with him recently, particularly as it relates to the Gaza conflict.
He's toast. Moderates will not vote for that trash.
The GOP response was equally as horrifying however. Sen. Katie Britt looked and sounded like she was auditioning for a Hollywood film. Vivek should have done the response.
All in all a horrible night for the Republic. The State of the Union is in serious trouble.

You are both correct.

Biden gave a very good speech. However, it was a campaign speech and not a State of the Union address. I also suspect they juice him up with something for an event like this. It would be crazy to think he could do this several nights a week for several months during a campaign.

As far as a campaign speech, a Democratic President's SOTU has become a progressive wish list. It is a litany of government proposals. A Politician declaring a war on cancer? I'm sure a lot of folks at home including independents were like me. Yeah Joe. You're going to end cancer! And, and............don't forget world peace!

On the flip side, I thought Katie Britt was nice to look at. I think I can still say MILF on this site. Southern MILF I might add. Leave the Cross on around your neck Katie. For some impulse I can't explain, that's a hot look in porn.

However as KD noted, she was overscripted and overprepared. I blame the handlers. Let her have some immediate and natural reactions to Biden's speech to get started. I don't necessarily agree with throwing relative newcomers on to the national stage. I would say she was a lot better than Bobby Jindal delivering the Republican response years ago.

Anyway, what the Republicans wanted to do was present a young woman and mother as spokesperson. So they accomplished that aspect.

Agreed. Although I would argue that the State of the Union address, over the last several years, has always been a "campaign speech" by any leader. It's all rhetoric, show and performance. IMO.

The fact that this was a campaign speech shouldn't surprise anybody. The overall Dem strategy won't change much. Beat Trump, beat Trump and always beat Trump. Everyone in the US know the existential threat and only the American Taliban (AKA Christian Nationalists) and the 1% of greed, inc. are totally pleased right now. This is a battle for the soul of the USA even more than the McCarthy era, how could a sitting POTUS talk about anything else???

No doubt.

Last night seemed to ratchet it up a notch though. I don't remember repeatedly chanting of four more years at any other SOTU. It was more of a political rally than a SOTU.

We can argue if Biden is a progressive or a moderate. However, the Democratic House membership is very progressive. They know the whole Administrative arm of progressive initiatives comes crashing down if Trump is elected.
