The majority of Americans are very insulated. They don't know much about what's going on in the world. Their news spends the majority of coverage on local crime and politics (state and federal), and only major stories like the Sydney terror attack will make it to the airwaves. Occasionally they'll have stories like how the travel and tourism industry has been hit by Trump, but they'll frame it like "why aren't Canadians coming to the US?" and ignore things like the 51 state rhetoric and put in a lot of other reasons (like our weaker dollar, which will impact travel).
I know we've probably all seen videos on TicTok or YouTube were they ask Americans basic geography, and they cannot find Europe on a unmarked map. Or they have no idea where Canada is. They look in constantly to tell themselves how great they are. So, while not all of them are that ignorant, a huge chunk of Americans are just ignorant about the world, or how the world views them. Sure, there are some who have traveled and talk about their experiences. But, if you were to drop into buttfuck Georgia, they would think the world respects the US and Trump.
