interesting history lesson
Personally i was a16/17 year old kid when i discovered the music of Dyke & The Blazers
little did i know that they were the innovators of "funk} music...i just loved the sound
laying the ground work for major Funk Artists
i have 4 or 5 of their singles plus a CD Compilation
Dyke and The Blazers....one of my early heros

Although "Funk" is not in the title, I thought it was this James Brown song from 1964 that was the first funk song, with the emphasis on the "one", instead of the 2 and 4...

Btw I totally love Dyke & The Blazers, and had all their releases on vinyl too, and then on CD when I sold my vinyl.

Nonetheless, Dyke & The Blazers kept the emphasis on the "backbeat" 2 & 4 in "Funky Broadway", which is not technically funk, as great, raw, and "funky" their sound was.
