I supported Carney at least in part because he promised us an Elbows Up approach to dealing with Trump…thus far, I’m disappointed with Carney in this regard- he makes Canada look weak and feckless.
Trump “likes” Carney because he constantly kisses his ass but he has no respect for people who do this nor for us as a country.
That was the entire reason SkidMark got elected, because he portrayed himself as the only one capable of defeating the bad orange man. The Canadian voting public are dumber than dirt.
I know Carney professionally and always thought he was an Alpha male in how he interacted with others, but with Trump it is clear Carney is the Beta. I guess he is more of a snowflake than I thought, he seems like many of the Liberals on this board.. all talk.
Put the blame on DoFo for the ads, not on Carney for trying to fix DoFo's screwup
I actually support Dofo in this instance. The ads made their point- they got under Trump’s skin and triggered a national conversation in the US.
In my opinion, Carney should have had Dofo’s back and stood up for him publicly even if he disagreed.
1) its a federal jurisdiction and DoFo should stay in his lane
2) antagonizing a dementia suffering troll is a bigger issue than a conversation he won't listen to. The ads played bigger here than in the US.
3) DoFo spent $75 million in america instead of spending that money on Ontario services
You cannot reason or have an intelligent discussion on economics with Trump. Carney is forced to play the game of make nice, just like every other leader except maybe for China, while he bides his time and finds other trading partners or nature takes it's course and takes Trump out. Albeit the reality is, the US is the elephant and Canada the beaver. Ford's timing was bad, especially when the Federal government was talking about having a sweetened deal on some items within the coming week and considering they are dealing with a child in the US.
I agree and support Dofo as well. Time to stand up to ignorant idiot bully Trump.
I would have prefer that Carney did not back down either but really it's ok. A lot of the american population supports canada because the lies of Trump are simply too strong.

Lol. I am reading all the excuses for Carney showing weak leadership, it is amazing how everyone bought into the elbows up and be strong, and now are content that Carney is the Beta boy.
Why don't you explain what strong leadership would have looked like to you and what Pierre would do in this situation?
First of all not have back down on the counter tariffs. Yes, they wouldn't help Canadians, but they would have been impactful on American exporters. Next, getting serious about discussions on an updated trade agreement would be helpful, isn't clear that Carney's team has made much/any progress.
Now tell me how Carney's elbow's up has transitioned into a bend the knee approach.
A Prime Minister's job is to do what benefits Canadians.
Not engage in performative actions that negatively impact us.
For whatever reason, we have made the mistake of putting all our eggs in one basket in the US.
Until that changes, the PM needs to act thoughtfully, which Carney is doing.
Guess what the right would be saying if he kept those tariffs on and it caused inflation?

So likely this is something to do with a trade ambassador or upcoming deal.
Though Carney is also trying to figure out who will pass his budget with him here.
Right now he doesn't have any party who will give him the votes to pass it.

Short-term pain for long term gain, sometimes you need to take hard decisions. And if you thought it was prudent, why did he put them on in the first place?
Just bent the knee, nothing to do with looking after Canadian's interest. Some inflation is likely better than sever recession, which we aren't far away from as the jobs slip away.
