I doubt she was in their face. They have hired a shit ton of rookies to be ICE agents to fill out these ranks. And with LAPD riot police You and I know the type of personality attracted to this kind of work. They enjoy it. I have no doubt it was on purpose and was a "crime of opportunity " to take a shot at a good looking blonde foreign reporter (if he even knew she was Australian) and laugh about it over beers after.
These ICE agency raids and way they are being conducted and against who are what is inflaming things. They are not going after the criminal types but low hanging fruit outside of Home Depot, the garment district, and hospitality industry. And all they will do is create a low wage worker deficit, raise prices and lessen services available.

Vast portions of the California economy, primarily agriculture, construction and private sanitation are heavily dependent on illegal, undocumented mostly Mexican and other foreign Latino America labour. Many Mexican believe that Mexico, Baja California and California are one. There a hell of a lot of Mexican flags at this LA insurrection.
Arguably , the California agriculture economy cannot function without these illegal workers.
The gangsters that are illegal are there but not the main reason for the protest and enforcement.
Trump is the first openly White Supremacist POTUS which is his allure to his MAGA base. Trump won two elections for a reason and it is to do much of what he has done thus far or tried to do domestically and internationaly, which is resulting in brilliant success and destruction anarchy at the same time.
The demographic supporting Trump is in danger of getting replaced by the Darwinism of the great replacement.
So far there are no fatalities in LA, and if Trump crushes Newsom with minimal fatalities if any, Trump hand will be strengthened across America and his autocratic tendency emboldened.
Trump will be increasingly a target for assassins.

I think you are going with the big bag of everything analysis. If you believe there is economic privation that will trigger protests, these people aren't necessarily in line with the immigration protests. The resistance as they like to call it is basically opposition to anything that Trump does economic or not. The resistance is a big bag of everything. Gaza, transgenderism, govt. spending, immigration, wages and so on and so on.
In my lifetime, just about every protest has been idealized to be Vietnam and Civil Rights. Today's protests aren't comparable because they simply advocate for too many things on too many levels. And as importantly unlike Vietnam and Civil Rights in the 1960s, public support has not galvanized behind protesters.

Lower prices can't be the end all for public policy making.
Just off the top of my head, California has been steadily raising the minimum wage. High levels of unskilled migrants doesn't jive with a higher minimum wage.
Lol. You and I both know it's about under the table work. The US economy, from the time of its inception, has always had a permanent "under/non paid class of citizens. Via slavery, then Jim Crow, the Chinese to build railways(us too there) various immigrants and recently central America. Its about who cuts the grass, cleans the rooms, cooks and busses tables, and builds homes. And a police force and laws to keep them illegal and under control.
I remember during the first Trump administration there were California residents who literally said it in interviews.

The situation in L.A. is a display by the Trump Administration that immigration laws will be enforced. These laws and the Trump Administration's management of immigration appear to be supported by the American public.
Americans gained a real understanding of the problems with trying to allow entry to anyone that wanted to come to the U.S.
(Canadians do not have experience with the magnitude of this problem. It's largely a conceptional and idealistic issue for Canadians looking at the U.S.)
