IPTV?

I have had IPTV for 3 years and have never had buffering on any live sports broadcast.

Same here. Have had IPTV for 4 years and initially I did have quite a lot of freezing. Changed the IPTV Providers and even more important upgraded the Internet to a current 150 Megabits per second, with the IPTV box hardwired to the Modem and guess what........ zero freezing since then. So I always recommend not to use the WIFI, and if it is not possible to hardwire the IPTV Box to the Modem then it is critical to do so with a reliable router.

I believe internet speed is the issue. I have 2 Mag424 boxes. One is hardwired. The 2nd is upstairs with wifi and the internet speed there is around 400 mb/sec. I have Rogers 1.5 gb/sec service.

I have Rogers 1GB service (940Mbps actual speed), and I still have occasional buffering.
I dont think it has anything to do with your internet speed when you are close to having 1GB of service.
I think it has more to do with your provider, and the brand of your android box

Correct and 400 mb/sec. is good enough with the Wifi. I had one in the basement that I tried to Wifi, but unfortunately the speed was far too slow with the Bell Fibe. So I had to use a router to get over 100 Mb/Sec.

It shouldn't be an issue if your overall speed is that high, but you need to do the speed test on the IPTV box itself to get a true reading. Your android box also makes a difference, specifically the operating system and the RAM.

I know IPTV services have been discussed here already. Regardless, hoping for some updated feedback, experiences or opinions. I have had a service through someone I found on Kijiji (believe it or not) for 3 years and have been overall satisfied with the service. I even setup 3 family members with it. We all use Firesticks with TiVi Mate to run the service.

A family friend recently asked me to set her up. However, she isn’t tech savvy at all and to be honest, I foresee me becoming her tech support just like my family members.

Does anyone know of a service that’s essentially plug and play In the Toronto area? Looking for an easy solution for her, i.e. buy a box preloaded with the necessary software and an EPG guide, pay for a service and simply connect it to the TV? Golumbia has been mentioned and I wii contact them to see what they offer.

Also, an opinions on an EPG guide other than TiVi Mate?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not the greatest with setting these things up. How easy are they to set up and should I just go buy one at the flea market at warden and eglinton? I think they come with a box and all that.

Is there still a flea market at warden and Eglinton? I remember going there in the 80s lol

If the box is fully setup, all you'll have to do when you get home is connect to the internet. It's that easy.

Don’t waste your time or money with anything else. You get one of their excellent boxes with a year of service for like 240 bucks and then it’s $100 a year from your second year onwards. Also for everyone you refer they will credit you two months…

I could be wrong, but I once heard Rogers might "throttle" services such as IPTV. I have never had an issue, but I use a VPN.

I've never had any issues with Rogers. Keep in mind that the internet is shared across all of your connected devices, so you're going to experience slower speeds from time to time.

I am being throttled by Rogers for the last few weeks.
My 500Mbps service is throttled to 240Mbps.

I troubleshooted the entire system...modem, router, switch, network cables, network card and bios...reboots, driver updates, firmware updates, bios updates...

2 of my PC's, which are always connected, max out at 240Mbps using online tests (fast.com & speedtest.net).
However, across my LAN they tested at 940Mbps up and down, using iPerf3.

I connected a notebook I rarely use , and it tested at 840Mbps.
When I changed the MAC address on those 2 PC's I tested at 840Mbps. ( don't believe those online tests to Rogers/Bell servers...they always test higher than your actual package.)
This morning those speeds were back to 240Mbps, until I changed the MAC addresses and rebooted the modem.

I do not use IPTV, just Usenet...but at $180/month for Rogers Internet and TV, only to be throttled to 1/2 speed, it is "asta la vista Rogers", hello Teksavvy and IPTV.

A VPN will not help in this situation...I have a couple, PIA and Proton.

I made the switch to Golumbia after a few years with another IPTV provider and I agree. Their service is excellent and the price can't be beat.

I never provided an update to my post on July 14, 2025 in this thread. I picked up a box from Golumbia and it was exactly what I was looking for. Plug and play with no need to do anything other than input your wifi code If going wireless. This was for a family friend and another friend went with Golumbia as well. Both are happy with no complaints.

Golumbia is great if you want easy setup, no need to jailbreak or download anything. Plus nice that they have a physical location if that’s important to you.
