When exactly do you send a deposit?

I haven't really done this before so I'm confused -- I see some ads on this site saying you fill out the booking form and send a deposit, but I don't understand how you can send a deposit before even knowing if she's available on the day/time you request.

Am I just missing something?

Ask her if it's not written on her website.

However make sure that
1. She has a website
2. She has good reviews or at least she is TTT.
Before you send anything.

I would also look for a deposit policy. It's important when you take people's money upfront.

Unless the SP is well established with reviews and has a site stating her deposit policy, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER send a deposit especially if it's an SP on LL. LL deposits are money scams, where you send the money and never hear from them again.

This. ^^^
Think with the big head. You need to have very good reason to believe that she's legit and won't just run away with your deposit.
Otherwise, you might as well go for a nice dinner. You'll enjoy the deposit more if spent on a meal than if it disappears with a scam SP.

I'm not saying that I've never sent deposits. The deposits that I do send are to reputable SPs with reviews and reputations... never some rando on LL.

If a deposit is demanded, it should only be a token amount ($25) to ensure you are not wasting their time.

Never give a deposit unless you are prepared to loose your money.

I think 25% is high if the provider charges $400-600 per hour.

Time wasters wouldn’t want to send $25.

Most providers should be able to detect red flags when accepting bookings from new clients.
Sorry but 25% is standard across the board. For any and all industries for that matter. Not just this one.

Paying a deposit is suppose to ensure a client doesn't want to cancel for fear of losing their deposit and is suppose to help the girl should he cancel at the last minute and she is out of income.

$25 is, for lack of a better term, Jack shit to either party. May as well not even bother with a deposit at all.

I do not make a deposit to book with my dentist, doctor, haircut, auto mechanic or any other service.

Some businesses may have a policy to charge to a cancellation fee. I have never been charged. I rarely cancel.

Great. Doesn't negate what I have said. Contractors, lawyers, web designers, photographers, hairdressers, etc use the deposit system, and it is standard 25%.

I have paid a deposit for surgeries, I have paid a deposit for large mechanical repairs, I have paid a deposit for all my renovations, I paid deposits on vehicle purchases, websites, photography. Just because you haven't, doesn't mean anything.

Do not send any deposit, do not buy any pre paid cards, or any type of gift card.
If they want a card or money in advance it’s a scam. Also they will promise you the world so you can send them the deposit

don’t do it
