Jesus christ, we can even outfit our solders with up to date equipment and you think our government would spend the hundreds if not billions on nukes?

We spend billions already, it will be a one time investment and relatively small ongoing spend. Plus the fast breeder reactors to make the Plutonium can also be an energy project.

Billions on what? Tampons in men's room? Inclusivity training so feelings don't get hurt? Trudummy's security detail which has gotten bigger over time?
Giving what equipment we do have away to Ukraine and not replacing it.
Yes I support Ukraine in their fight, but the government needs to take care of our own before they take care of others.
Frigates that are delivered with so many problems? Buying used diesel/electric subs from Britain? Are any of those subs still in active service?

Oh come on, do some reading and stop making people spoon feed you. We bought 9 MRTT A330 tankers. We have C-17s, F-18s A major SAR Helo upgrade underway, logistics ships being built, frigates, subs. Chinooks Hercs and people that we pay salaries to.

Subs, get real. Canada has ZERO subs under production. They announced plans to procure 12 new subs for delivery in 2035. So that means 2040.
F=18's are old and on their last legs. Need constant upgrading just to stay relevant.

I didn't say we had no equipment. I meant the equipment we do have would be useless if we had to defend ourselves.
How do you defend the Artic with 2 subs at any 1 time in service.

Are any of Canada's submarines operational?

At no point over the past decade have more than two of Canada's four submarines been operational at any one time. The navy tried to hit that milestone in 2020, and tried again in 2021, but the service's ambitions for the sub fleet largely hinged on the health of HMCS Corner Brook.Feb 19, 2025

Ice breakers don't hunt subs.
The Canadian Artic has been and will continue to be exploited by Russia and maybe soon by China. Canada just doesn't seem to care.

you don't need to have them under production, we have 4 and that means essentially one is always "in production" subs are expensive. If we go ahead with the 12 unit replacement we are talking about 100B total lifetime cost. F-18s are fine if they did an avionics upgrade. They are just bomb trucks anyway, The subs are not useless. But who do we need to defend ourselves against. Only the USA and all our weapons are mostly American. Only Russia and China can project power against Canada and even still it would be a massive challenge for them. The only way to defend the Artic is nuclear subs or embedded sonar arrays. But either way if we come across a Russian or US sub, what do you suggest we do? Attack it?

So in light of Putin being a possible threat to Western countries, we might now also have a threat from our Southern "friends".
If you think Russia is no threat, read this: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024...ambling-to-counter-russia-china-in-the-arctic

Although not owning nukes directly, this has already been somewhat contemplated, : https://www.newsweek.com/canada-nato-nuclear-weapons-trump-2039244

Canada has a shitload of uranium. All we'd have to do is enrich it.
There would be no legal obstacle to us having nukes: https://www.icanw.org/canada
They serve as an excellent deterrent. Just look at NKorea, noone dares mess with them.
Fucking right I’d be OK if Canada acquired nuclear weapons I already have a couple targets. First one would be the White House or wherever Trump happens to be, the next one would be Montreal Canadian related, but I’m not quite sure what that would be.

I really hope for all of Canada you NEVER EVER have a say in our military.
You are so delusional.

What would you do, you gonna try and sink a Russian or American nuclear sub in the Arctic? you are whacked.
You would NEVER nuke your own territory, or anything close by your own territory.

Then we'll team up with Europe, China and Mexico, and then Trump will be surrounded 💂‍♀️
That'd a bad idea...Europe China Mexico and Canada would not want to be locked in with US...we're not even separated by a wall for goodness sakes...Canada won't last a day, Europe can be cut off in the Atlantic China in the pacific...

Sub hit the bottom and was damaged. These things happen. A USN seawolf sub slammed into a volcano at full speed. years ago, its still being fixed. With 4 subs the MOST you can expect is 3 ready to deploy, so the navy has done a great job. These boats have gone on some pretty long voyages. Like I said if you think they were expensive, you are truly clueless about the cost of submarine ops. Canada would be much better defending out coastline with anti ship equipped patrol aircraft or drones.

Cant trust the US to protect us, we need nukes and bigger military. Drones are a good start.
