Dude we have h

Dude we have had a Conservative govt in Ontario for how long? Man you guys have no clue who is responsible for what in this country. 🙆‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Bro, the Federal government dictates the criminal code, not Ontario govt.
Trudope refuses to reform bail, or to start giving mandatory sentences for anyone caught with a handgun.
He has the power to do it, but he wont

Ford wants to hold judges responsible, but that doesn't mean he can change the criminal code

Ford has absolutely no power over federal law

Are Ontario Judges making the ruling not under Ford's jurisdiction?

What does this mean?

"In Ontario, the Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints judges to the Ontario Court of Justice. The attorney general's recommendation is considered when making these appointments"

Ontario judges (and judges for all the other provinces as well) are bound by case law and sentencing guidelines, which falls under federal law.

So if we were to ever have bail reform and stronger prison sentences for violent crime, it would have to come from the federal government. It can never come from any provincial government

We are talking bail, isn't bail at the discretion of Provincial court judges?

It is, but the federal govt can set stricter bail laws if they want to, but Trudeau doesnt seem to wanna do it.

Also I'm not 100% sure, but I dont think Ford has the power to tell Ontario judges to make bail stricter.
Ford can pressure them, but that doesnt mean judges have to listen to him

Follow-up question, do we have enough prisons and staff to accommodate very strict bail rules??

Its well proven that mandatory sentences don't work. You can still get 5 years for assault and up to 14 for aggrevated assault. Enforcement is a provincial responsibilty. No guns here as far as I can see.

He says we don't have the right to defend ourselves as he hides behind massive security.
It's amazing that he can say this and nobody bats an eye. How dumbed down and defeated does a population have to be to accept such a ridiculous sentiment.

The leader of a nation telling its citizens that they cannot defend themselves; that they have no right to do so.

It's insane.

And then they pretend not to know why such sentiments invite more violent criminal behaviour.

No gun is exactly the problem.
Trudeau's last bail reform was pathetically weak and had no impact on crime:

Again, I dont know why you guys harp on about Rob Ford to do something.
He is powerless when it comes to federal laws and bail regulations
