I have watched several tv programs about the accident, and surprisingly, none of them mention the non-conforming with the hard ceiling of 200' as being essential. And the 19 controllers who were reportedly supposed to be on shift? Were they some of the 3,000 controllers Trump reportedly fired? (BTW, that social media post that claimed it was not true. No controllers have been fired by Trump, so it's not his fault either)
Besides, the Controller did everything according to the book. He MIGHT have done better to give the helicopter a vector when he saw they were so close but the helicopter was at 200' at the time of the last communication, but climbed to 400' in the following SECONDS. The helicopter was limited to a HARD ceiling of 200' so the helicopter climbed into airspace he was not cleared into. The Controller has to rely on the professionalism of pilots, especially Military pilots in DC, so it's not like he thought the military chopper that was identified as being a VIP transport would pull a stupid move like climbing above and out of their specific flight path.
By the way, I was sitting in a waiting room of a doctor in Buffalo, where the TV played Trump's news conference about the midair collision on NBC.
What a disgusting and undignified spectacle for a president
