So in spite of that he can be smart enough to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars but not smart enough to know that he was giving the Heil Hitler twice. Sure, we all believe that.
I really don't know what to think of this. Is he really that stupid, that brazen, that emotionally unintelligent?

It is arguably one of the worst things he could have done in the moment, no doubt. Dud his hubris get the better of him? His privilege is clearly showing here no matter what.

I give him a year probably before Trump tires of this. These two big egos romance just can't last.

If he didn't say the bit about his heart you might have a point but the reality is he just made an emotional gesture that he didn't fully think through. Social cues are not really his strong suit. This is going to make for some interesting memes though and the leftist media is going to have a field day.
"Elon Musk is the smartest man in the world, and the best CEO, and the richest, and the best, and he's gonna save two trillion you guys. But he's also super emotional and doesn't understand the symbolism of sieg heil-ing at a political rally."

"He didn't mean to put those guys on a train to a death camp. He just thought that they were going to go camping and be able to concentrate on being better white americans."

I agree he and Trump should have a falling out.
but Elon sieg heiling would only be bad for them if it had bad consequences. But it doesn’t. Dems don’t matter anymore, Jews have to pretend it was okay and MAGA is loving it. And Trump is not hitler anymore. So far it worked perfectly for all of them

This pre-supposes that Trump is interested in being president. Trump ran the first time to get a better contract with NBC. He ran this time to stay out of jail. He got his get out of jail card from the supreme court, so now he can just sit back and let the oligarchs run the country.

The latest ridiculous take. Nobody with an IQ north of 90 sees it this way.

Hey SJWs, THIS DOESN'T WORK! You are wasting your time. It's not even worth dissecting.

They are still trying to figure out if trump will obey them or not.
Elon bought trump for $270 million then trump declared that Elon stole the election for him.
And still trump is trying to get rid of Elon.

Hey Frankie, I guess you’re now on Trumps side?

He helped with a ceasefire to protect your precious Gaza and then Elon did the Nazi salute. You must be loving them right now. They’re right up your alley.

SMACKDOWN ALERT. SEN. MURPHY (D): What do you think about Trump's most visible advisor, Elon Musk, performing a N*zi salute? U.N. AMBASSADOR NOMINEE ELISE STEFANIK: That is simply not the case. To say so - the American people see through it. They support Elon Musk. MURPHY: But right-wing commentators celebrated it. White supremacists rallied behind it. Does that concern you? STEFANIK: What concerns me is - this is what you believe is most important to ask the U.N. ambassador. President Trump earned historic from voters because of his leadership against antisemitism.

None of this is surprising. Trump has been channeling Hitler throughout his campaign…Elon has previously expressed support for neo-Nazis.

This is the same old playbook from Trump’s last term:
1. Say or do something wildly inappropriate;
2. When people react, deny doing what everyone just saw you do and accuse them of TDS:
3. Return to Step 1.

This is not a glitch. It is not a mistake. This is an ongoing and integral part of Trump World.

This article suggests giving Elon the benefit of the doubt. It seems to me that Elon has not done much to earn that trust; in fact, he’s done quite the opposite.

Did He Actually Do That?
Elon Musk either had a slipped-mask moment or is supremely awkward.

Did Elon Musk actually toss off a Sieg heil! at Donald Trump’s inauguration rally today?

A lot of people online seem to think he did, based on data from their eyeballs. Freeze-frame images of Musk on social media show the world’s richest man at a podium in Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena engaging in what could definitely be construed as a Nazi salute. Video clips of Musk’s speech support this conclusion. Musk stands at the podium, graced with the presidential seal, and thanks the crowd. Then he forcefully slaps his right hand to his chest and rather violently extends his arm outward diagonally to the audience. Multiple historians have backed the ideathat Musk’s gesture was indeed a Nazi salute. “Thank you,” Musk says. He makes the gesture to the crowd, turns 180 degrees, and repeats it to the rest of the crowd behind him. “My heart goes out to you,” he adds, placing his hand back on his chest.

What’s left out of much of the discussion is that Musk is supremely, almost cosmically, awkward and stilted. All close observers of Musk—and I am one—know this.

So which one is it? A mask-off full-Nazi moment or just a graceless tech baron not in full control of both his arms and his feelings? (It wouldn’t be the first time he’s embarrassed himself onstage using his limbs.) I would urge you to watch the video for yourself.

Musk has not yet commented publicly on what he did, and he did not respond to my inquiry about what, exactly, he thought he was doing up there. (It’s worth noting that the video Musk posted of his speech did not show Musk performing the gesture head-on—it cut away to the crowd; a C-SPAN clip shows it in full, though.) Eventually, he will almost certainly deny that he Sieg heiled. If history is a guide, he will post on X, scoffing at the accusations. He could make a self-deprecating joke about being so excited that he wasn’t aware of his body. He could act like a troll, like he did when a German magazine likened him to a member of Hitler’s cabinet, and he responded, “I did Nazi that coming.” The most disturbing response might be if he says nothing at all. So far, he has posted several times on X today without addressing the matter.

Musk’s X has given a megaphone to bigots and restored the accounts of banned racists. I’ve argued that Musk has turned X into a white-supremacist website. Musk himself has spent recent weeks enthusiastically endorsing Germany’s far-right political party, Alternative für Deutschland, or AfD. Members of the party have had documented ties to neo-Nazis; in 2018, the co-leader of the AfD downplayedthe significance of the Holocaust and the crimes of the Nazi regime. Musk has endorsed posts about the racist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory. Even those inside the MAGA movement have voiced concerns about Musk. This month, the former Trump adviser Steve Bannon called Musk “a truly evil guy, a very bad guy.” He used the word racistto describe Musk and others in Trump’s Silicon Valley inner circle who have South African heritage: “Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on earth, white South Africans, we have them making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”

All of this informs how one might interpret Musk on the stage today. Above all else, Musk is a troll, an edgelord. He delights in “triggering” his ideological enemies, which includes the media. And his gesture—whatever the intent—has done just that. In a way, the uproar online over Musk is reminiscent of an incident in the first months of the first Trump administration, when two pro-Trump influencers were photographed in the White House press room making the “OK” hand gesture. The photo was interpreted by some media members as a white-power symbol. Reporters and organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League traced it back to racist message boards like 4chan’s /pol/ board. Eventually, however, the gestures appeared to be part of an attempt, by 4chan, to trick the mainstream media into overreacting and turning the handiwork of a few trolls into national news. The whole affair was exhausting and difficult to follow. A message board that trafficked in hate speech created a fake hate-speech symbol to try to trick the media into calling something racist. (The ADL, it is worth noting, has extended Musk the benefit of the doubt, issuing a statement that Musk made an “awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” and encouraged everyone to “give one another a bit of grace.”)

None of that is to suggest that Musk’s salute wasn’t genuine. A practiced troll consistently crosses redlines because they want to offend and trigger. They also swaddle their actions in enough detached irony and cynicism that allow them to relentlessly mock or harass anyone who dares take them seriously. There is every reason to take a right-wing troll at face value, and yet doing so often means giving them what they want: an intense reaction they can use against you.

For now, all anyone has to understand Musk’s motives is a damning video, his past words and actions, and plenty of circumstantial evidence about his beliefs. What is undeniable is that watching Musk do that onstage while thousands stood on their feet cheering was more than ominous. Across the internet, Wired reports, neo-Nazis are thrilled at what they believe is a direct signal from the centibillionaire. In many ways, it is a fitting spectacle to begin the second Trump administration: a bunch of people arguing endlessly over something everyone can see with their own eyes.

Funny how things like this never happen at Dem events.

CNN’s Jim Acosta tees up CA Rep. Robert Garcia to spread more Elon “salute" propaganda: “That was a n*zi salute. He did it twice for emphasis." They have learned nothing, and will continue to learn nothing. These tired legacy media smears were soundly rejected at the ballot box in 2024. Of note is the careful framing here from Acosta to avoid *directly* saying Elon made a n*zi salute — instead, using the “others are saying it” technique to say it without saying it — and tee up the congressman’s smears. These propaganda press dirty tricks are so incredibly transparent. Let 'em keep at it.

No.

It's quite obvious that was the neo-Nazi, "My Heart Goes Out To You" Salute.
I know you're playing with their bullshit, but remember your Sartre.

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

Musk is trolling because he knows he can get away with it.
The point here is to "be edgy" and people will fall over themselves offering BS "explanations" for it.
The idea is to frustrate you as you try to get them admit reality.

Remember the "ok" hand gesture as white power symbol?
It's the same basic concept.

I'm sure this thread is full of people defending him and accusing people of misunderstanding it.
If the toadies are willing to go to the mattresses defending it, expect more of this in the future.
Once it is just "the leftist media's fault" then flashing nazi salutes "ironically" will be the cool thing to do.

(ETA: I see Oracle wins the prize at post #6 with the "oh, it was just an emotional gesture and that he's socially awkward" defense.)
