Hamas made the tactical decision that Israel would have the choice of either not acting, letting Hamas get a 'win' on the 7th or Israel would act against Hamas which could only result in civilian deaths which hamas also sees as a 'win'. This was widely admitted by Hamas leadership in interviews not long after the 7th.
Thankfully' Hamas' last minute changes didn't prevent a deal. As a side effect, Ben Gvir is threatening to leave the government which is a good thing.
It could end well for America. Trump ,has a fragile ego. If he believes Bibi screwed him, he will feel compelled to show him who's boss. None of his predecessors did that, because they knew who the real boss was. Trump may not care, if he feels humiliated.

Soooooooo even a not very clever person can deduce they had little concern about the hostages being killed by friendly fire.

Sooooo even a very biased person can appreciate the fact that from day one getting the hostages back was one of the 2 stated goals of Israel, along with demolishing Hamas. It was just as important to Israel as it was to the US when they wanted the hostages back from Iran. As well, keep in mind how much pressure there was/is in Israel on the gov't to get them back, as evidenced by numerous mass public protests.
Maybe when Israel launched the raid on Entebbe they didn't really want the hostages back. It was only a publicity stunt and they just got lucky.
