Sam Moore died Friday after surgery at a hospital in Coral gables, Florida. Confirmed by his long time wife and manager, Joyce Moore.

She said the exact cause was unclear.

Sam & Dave's many hits included Soul Man, Hold On I'm Comin', and I Thank You. Sam recorded a solo album after the duo split up, that was also excellent.

Imho one of the best male soul singers ever...

For those who weren't familiar with them, Sam is the first one singing at the start of the clip, with the rounder face...

I recall reading they did not get along very well. Surprising since they were so good performing together. RIP.

Yes. At some point they had a falling out. Apparently Dave went after Sam with a knife one time.

from Wikipedia:

"Conflict between Moore and Prater

Sam & Dave were known for having a very tumultuous partnership during most of their 21 years together. According to Moore, they did not speak to each other offstage for almost 13 years. During the 1970s, they broke up many times, and typically would show up separately for shows, require separate dressing rooms, not look at each other onstage, and communicate through intermediaries. They also had performances in the 1970s where only one of them would show up, leading to the eventual departure of Moore, and the continuation of the name "Sam & Dave" by Prater pairing with vocalist Sam Daniels. Moore describes personal issues with Prater, drug use, touring fatigue, and a desire to do his own act with new material as contributing to their break-up and replacement of Dave. Prater attributed their rift and break-ups to Moore's frustrations in wanting to do his own act and diversify from repeatedly performing the Sam & Dave song catalog (which Prater has said that Moore did not like very much)."

Dave Prater died in a single vehicle car accident in April 1988 at the age of 50.

He was inducted posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame along with Sam Moore in 1992.

Watch this and you won't be able to sit still. The raw emotion will twist you around. This is lovin' like you've never known. At around the 21:10 mark, Sam and Dave steal the show:
I was in the process of uploading my copy of this video to archive(dot)org when you made your post.

This is my own Xvid rip from DVD. It's about 14 minutes longer than the dailymotion video in the post #7 link.

I would recommend downloading the Xvid and watching it with VLC Media Player mainly because with large files, online viewing can result in the video freezing temporarily while more of the file is buffered into short term memory.

The show was at Njårdhallen

near Oslo, Norway.

In the late 1960's/ early 1970's, concert appearances by major International acts in Scandinavia were often broadcast on TV. This was Otis Redding's first and only live performance in Norway.

I have the DVD. Truly amazing performances by all involved.

I was a bit surprised to see Steve Cropper playing through a Marshall amp with his '61 Tele in the concert. In the US he almost always used a tweed Fender Harvard amp in the studio, and Fender Super Reverbs live.

Imho Steve was one of the best r&b guitarists ever. So much taste in his playing. I read an interview once where he said his greatest fear was flubbing a note in a live performance.
I get that because he played so economically and cleanly that any mistake would become readily apparent. No hiding in compression, distortion, and a multitude of 16th notes...

I'm guessing that the amps may have been property of the venue. The European Stax-Volt 1967 tour was only four gigs over ten days, all in different countries:

the four venues combined have seating capacity of under 10K. They probably didn't have a lot of luggage with them.
