Trump floats Wayne Gretzky as 'Governor of Canada' while Trudeau's Christmas message struggles to make a mark: 'It no longer looks like a joke'

Ate they? I have lots if friends over there who say it's more about local government than brexit.

Kinda like it's more about Trudeau than Trump here......
I have lots of friends there who were opposed to Brexit. Polls suggest that most UK residents now believe that Brexit was a huge mistake.
Trump's pure fantasy about Canada being a 51st State is wishful thinking, just like his walking dreams about Greenland and The Panama being purchased on Amazon!!
Not sure what that has to do with Trudeau!!

Good that you embraced immigrants of all colours and creeds!!

Most of those migrants who came from the EU were those who intended to reside permanently in the UK, especially from Nations like Poland and Romania. In the UK they were not considered to be immigrants as there was a free flow of workers within the EU without any visa or work permits being issued!!

However, a considerable number of them had to leave against their will due to Brexit. Many of them were in the construction business. They were filling positions that were desperately vacant in that sector. Generally, if you look at various countries that have migrants or immigrants, they fill in positions that local residents cannot fill!!
They weren't staying. They were migrant workers.

Doubtful. Or they would have applied for citizenship. That's how you know. They planned to stay for money, then go home later to live cheap.
They did not have to apply for the Citizenship if the UK was still part of the EU!!

Many were taken by surprise with the unexpected Brexit.:

Before Brexit, free movement rules gave EU citizens the right to live and work in the UK without requiring permission. From 1 January 2021, free movement ended and EU citizens migrating to the UK are subject to more restrictive immigration rules, which are the same as those facing citizens from non-EU countries. A

Availability and intent are two different things. They were there to work, send money home, and eventually go home to their own culture and live cheaper.

Or they would have applied to stay.

Not really, as they had moved to the UK for better pastures. They wanted some new and brighter futures
Some who were eligible based on residency were allowed to stay. Others who did not qualify, had to leave as did the UK citizens working in the EU Nations!!

Ok, so what?
Precisely my point, that a large majority wanted to stay on but did not have that minimum residency status to apply for citizenship.
But a large segment also believed that Brexit was a disaster and that is why they left!!

They left because they never intended to apply for residency. You can't say what their possible future intentions were.

They did come to the UK for a better life than in Nations like Poland and Romania. Their whole intention was to live permanently in the UK.
Uncertainty after Brexit, including better economic conditions in other EU nations was the reason that these migrants left the UK!!

After years of living in the United Kingdom, many Poles are packing up and heading back to Poland. Why now? From the fallout of Brexit to rising racist attacks, and better prospects in Poland, the Polish community that once called the UK home is saying goodbye

They went there to make money. Not to stay.

No wish I was though..What an opportunity.

It's plain to see why Wayne is so loved around the globe.
Wayne is only known to a handful of nations where Ice Hockey is a popular sport. Most Nations would be clueless as to who Wayne is.
But there is no way that he is going to be in charge of the "51st State"!!
Maybe only in Trump's dreams!!
