This is the first year of the 12 team playoff system, which gives a lot more schools a shot at the CFB playoffs and a National title. Which also means a lot $$$$$ for TV networks broadcasting these playoff games. The bowl games are essentially dead, top players were opting out of those games anyway. Don't be surprised if the playoff is increased to 16 teams in a few years....more $$$$$$ for everybody.

Week. 1
Georgia 34 Clemson 3 - Georgia looks National Champ ready, QB Carson Beck is a Heisman candidate and the Bulldogs want revenge for being left off the playoffs last year.
Clemson really struggles on offense and their QB hasn't lived up to his 5 - star rating out of HS.

Ohio St. 52 Akron 6 - The Buckeyes look good with a upgrade at QB with transfer Will Howard from KSU. They also have a freshman elite WR. If the Buckeyes don't beat Mich this year, Ryan Day might be gone.
Akron is a MAC cupcake, but OSU did what you supposed to do against a cupcake.

Texas 52 Colo St. 0 - Texas dominated and Ewers looks like top draft pick at QB, the Longhorns will be hard to beat. Texas plays a diminished Mich in A2 this week, don't be surprised if Texas wins by double digits.

Notre Dame 23 Texas A&M 13 - Both teams have good defenses, but ND's is better. ND lacks weapons on offense, but they should make the 12 team playoff, because of their easy schedule.

Miami 41 Fla. 17 - Miami looks good with new transfer QB Cam Ward, The U is back...maybe, they should win the ACC. Florida is still a work in progress.

Michigan 30 Fresno St 10 - Go Blue...Hail to the Victors! National Champs have lost a LOT of talent to the NFL and it showed. The defense is the strength of the team, but they will struggle scoring against good teams, 3 or 4 loses and missed playoff is very possible.

Alabama 63 W. Ky 0 - Roll Tide and Bama rolled all over the Hilltoppers, Bama like Georgia is Championship ready.

Other teams to watch: Penn St, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oregon, USC, Utah, Arizona, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas St, Oklahoma St.

Teams that might surprise: North Carolina St. Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Washington, Rutgers, Louisville, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, SMU.

I went to Ohio Stadium and seen the Buckeyes beat Western Michigan 56-0...it was spectacular, the game day day experience was nothing like I've seen before.

My beloved Gators had the toughest schedule of any team this year while they were rebuilding. They won the last three games beat FSU ,OLE Miss , and LSU. We have a 7-5 record while the pundits expected them to only win 3 max 4 games. GO GATORS !

The post season is different this year. In addition to 36 Bowl games there are 4 play in games featuring teams ranked 5 through 12. These games take place Dec 20 & 21.

5 Texas vs. 12 Clemson
6. Penn St. vs. 11. SMU
7. Notre Dame vs. 10. Indiana
8. Ohio St. vs. 9. Tennessee

This Saturday the 1st two Bowl games are scheduled

Cricket Celebration Bowl Jackson St. (11-2) vs. South Carolina St. (9-2). Current line is South Carolina State minus 2. O/U 53.5. I lean towards Jackson St. but I'll be betting the over. These are two explosive offenses. It will be fun to watch.

Salute to Veterans Bowl. S. Alabama (6-6) vs. W. Michigan (6-6). Current line is S. Alabama minus 8. O/U 57.5. This is basically a home game for S. Alabama. Not sure if that gives them a decided advantage they were 3-3 at home and 3-3 on the road during the regular season. When I look at this I see a decided advantage for S. Alabama in the passing game. Both teams rush the ball well. S. Alabama has a slightly better defense. I'll take S. Alabama to cover here and I'd lean towards the over as well.

it is hard to bet on these bowl games now since half of the QBs are entering transfer portal and opting out.

my predictions on the first round:

5 Texas vs. 12 Clemson
toss, Sark hasn't shown me that he can win big games, unless he starts Arch. Clemson has a great kicker.

6. Penn St. vs. 11. SMU
SUM hasn't played anyone all year. Jerry Sandusky University wins.

7. Notre Dame vs. 10. Indiana
both had weak schedules., talents win out. ND wins

8. Ohio St. vs. 9. Tennessee
toss, OSU is traumatized by losing the School Up North. I think it comes down to weather. OSU wins if its is snowy and windy.

I think Texas beats Clemson easily…I’m not that impressed with Penn but I think they beat SMU…I’m going with Indiana over Notre Dame, Notre Dame is overrated…OSU and Tennessee will be a good game but I’m going with Buckeyes to rebound from their crushing defeat against Michigan.

I do like the Longhorns today. Clemson doesn't fare well against elite defenses or the SEC. Texas to win and cover.
I agree with you Penn State will win and cover. The line has moved to 9.5.
I took ND last night and they hung on to cover. In fact I had all 3 games right yesterday. Woohoo.
I do think the Volunteers will cover the 7.5 spread. Its going to be a cold one in Columbus. That favors defenses and running games so I see a battle in the trenches. Even better I like the game to go under the 46 total.

Indiana and SMU should never been selected to play in the playoffs. Miami, Bama Ole Miss would have been much better selections.

No, you just can't pick the teams before the season starts, you do it on the season...Miami got screwed but Alabama lost 3 games no way they deserved to be in

Bama should have gotten in based on strength of schedule.
What do you mean by " you just can't pick the teams before the season starts". They don't do that. They do it after the conference championship games.

Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and by 3 touchdowns to Oklahoma, both unranked teams, they got to win those games… how would it look if Alabama got hot in the playoffs and made it the championship game after losing a three games in the regular season they wouldn’t have deserve that.

You just can’t give Alabama the birth in the playoff based on who they are. They play the regular season and they lose it. They got nothing but themselves to blame, I know they don’t name the teams before the regular season but people still wanted them to be named just based on reputation and frankly, they just didn’t deserve it this year.

How would it look if a NFL wild card team got hot in the playoffs and won the SB? Should Notre Dame be in the playoffs even tho they are independent and never had to play in a conference championship game? Is that fair when other teams had to?
Bama didn't want in based on reputation, they wanted in based on strength of schedule. How hard do you think Boise State or Arizona schedule was?

Here you go...

-those NFL wild card teams got in because they had better records than the ones that didn't...a committee didn't say "We know you had a better record but we want the high profile and more marketable team in".

-Notre Dame always is overrated but they did obliterate teams scoring 40-50 plus points a game and only lost one game.

-Not playing in a conference championship game shouldn't eliminate a team...Big 10 and SEC are so much better than the others and should have 4/5 teams in.

-Arizona and Boise won there conferences and the rules say the winners get in.

-I think Miami should have been in before Alabama.

Tennessee didn't show up but their fans did. They also didn't disclose the seriousness of their starting RB's hamstring injury, which limited him to 3 touches. However, even if he was at full health they still would have lost because they got thoroughly outclassed on both sides of the ball.

Looking at the remaining playoff bracket, I feel Penn State has the easiest shot at getting to the championship game.

SMU and Indiana needed to be included over Alabama (who lost to Oklahoma and Vandy), but the conference champions should not automatically get first round byes, i.e. Boise and ASU. Oregon got screwed for having to play Ohio state.

next round:

Penn State vs Boise
PSU -10.5 Penn state wins but won't cover.
Boise will use old tricks plays from 2007 Fiesta win over OU.

Texas over ASU:
Texas -14, take the longhorns cover, won't be close.

Ohio state over Oregon.
OSU -2.5. take OSU cover.
ironically Chip Kelly used to coach Oregon, and the game is at Rose Bowl the home of UCLA LOL

ND vs UGA
UGA -1.5, UGA will cover despite losing Beck.
