Ontario rejected Sharia religious courts back in 2005. It's a good thing this came about before the current culture of progressive chest beating or else religious courts would be just as widespread here.
Essentially, the reason being; "We will not tolerate the interference of religion in our justice system." Rightfully so.
The downside? Ontario also eliminated excisting Catholic and Jewish
courts tribunals as a result. Ontario has allowed Catholic and Jewish faith-based tribunals to settle family law matters on a voluntary basis since 1991.
However, if you think Western-culture based Catholic & Jewish courts are equivalent to Sharia, I have some swamp land to sell you.
