The number of civilians killed in the Gaza conflict has been inflated to portray Israel as deliberately targeting innocent people, a report claims.

Researchers accuse the Gaza ministry of health of overstating casualty data by including natural deaths, failing to differentiate between civilian and combat casualties and over-reporting the numbers of women and children killed.

The study by the Henry Jackson Society, a think tank, claims the figures have been manipulated by the Hamas-run authorities in Gaza for propaganda purposes, with international media outlets happy to repeat them uncritically.


The Gaza ministry of health has estimated that more than 44,000 people have been killed since Israel launched its military response to the Oct 7 Hamas attacks.

The Henry Jackson Society found that, based on Israeli and US military and intelligence reports, around 17,000 of these were Hamas fighters, but claims that this has been frequently overlooked in media reports.

Its report states: “The ministry of health, operating under Hamas, has systematically inflated the death toll by failing to distinguish between civilian and combatant deaths, over-reporting fatalities among women and children and even including individuals who died before the conflict began.

“This has led to a narrative where the Israel Defense Forces are portrayed as disproportionately targeting civilians, while the actual numbers suggest a significant proportion of the dead are combatants.”

The Henry Jackson Society (HJS) is a trans-Atlantic foreign policy and national security think tank, based in the United Kingdom. While describing itself as non-partisan, its outlook has been described variously as right-wing,[1][2][3][4] neoliberal,[5][6] and neoconservative.[7][8][9]

According to a report by the Cordoba Foundation in 2015, "right-wing politics is apparent not only in the ideas that the Henry Jackson Society promotes, but also emerges distinctly on examination of its funders".[61]

The Muslim Council of Britain criticised the Society in 2017 for making "oblique references to the usual slurs levelled at Muslims: that Muslims do not integrate, are not part and parcel of British society, and are therefore likely to be terrorists".[62]

Co-founder Matthew Jamison, who now works for YouGov, wrote in 2017 that he was ashamed of his involvement, having never imagined the Henry Jackson Society "would become a far-right, deeply anti-Muslim racist ... propaganda outfit to smear other cultures, religions and ethnic groups". He claimed that "The HJS for many years has relentlessly demonised Muslims and Islam".[63]

It is clear that many western media sources automatically quote numbers and claims from Hamas (though some are at least making it obvious where the claims are from).


Not sure about right now but the 'official' Hamas numbers and the Israeli estimates had been fairly close. The biggest difference being that Hamas claims every casualty is a civilian while Israeli numbers distinguish between civilians and fighters.

Latest numbers from Hamas are just over 45,000 dead with Israel claiming 17,000 fighters.

So if we subtract the fighters from the total, we get 28,000 civilians killed. Well, that's a load off my mind! Somebody please check the math.

Based on historians and military analysts, 4:1 is typical in modern conflicts but despite the dense civilian population and Hamas openly admitting they are willing to sacrifice civilians for the cause, Israel is 2.4:1.

War is horrible but should be viewed in the context of war. Of course the fact that there was no war before Hamas' choice on Oct 7 ...

The Lanclet is much more highly respected and they say the actual number is 4x higher then reported as so many bodies and buried in the rubble. The number does not matter. Too many Israeli war criminals are on tik tok expressing pride for their genocidal crimes. There is broad support in Israel for these crimes so FUCK ISRAEL. I will never spend a DIME on an Israeli product unless my life depended on it. BOYCOTT that evil nation of baby killers. !!!

Establishing Biblical Israel will be difficult and bloody.

So far they are achieving the first objective, reduce Gaza to dust. Then they must expel the Palestinians from the West Bank, then pull a Jaffa on Damascus. With Trump destabilizing the world economy, they may get what they want.
