For me, it's more of an occasional thing. I've identified a few factors that lead me to engage in this hobby, most of which are related to stress—whether from work or relationships.
Typically, I only dabble for about two months before stepping back until I feel the need for that kind of outlet again.
That said, there are times when I simply have the urge to experience something different or seek something my partner doesn't provide.

Losing my virginity was on my bucket list. That's how I got in. Fast forward to today. I managed to not see someone in November but I already withdrew the cash for some action.
The main motivation to seeing an escort is because I don't meet enough women my age who I'm comfortable asking out. I love feeling a woman while she performs sexually. It's hot and a dopamine stimulator. I don't think it's worth waiting around for years and going mentally crazy from the lack of sexual satisfaction (assuming the person does not watch porn). When some people pay $1900 in rent, a few hundred dollars isn't setting me back financially.

Very similar experience to mine - prior to relationship and marriage I hobbied because I didn't want to date and it was just easier, when we started dating the sex was fun but vanilla (not that I'm a freak, but the same routine of mish, doggy no oral either way etc. gets boring) after marriage it stopped for years, so I hobbied, but we still had fun, traveled etc. then she decided it was time for kids so we had just enough sex to get 2 then it stopped again for years, so I hobbied, now it's like maybe 3-4 times a year, not enough for me, so I hobby, infrequently i.e. only when I need it and it's not coming at home.For me it's complete lack of sex with my wife. I do not hate her, she is great company and we are good friends. First few years after getting married I tried a lot to initiate for sex but it felt so one-sided, feels like she is just forcing herself to do it so stopped completely. She has zero sex drive, zero. Man has need so started 8 yrs back and going on. If she ever genuinely comes forward for sex I will stop hobbying. I have never had emotional attachment with anyone else and not looking for it.
