Four girls charged with arson after residential fire in Oshawa, say police - The Globe and Mail

Is it me, or girls have become more and more criminally inclined, as of late?

I think it's time to change the Youth Criminal Act and lower the age limit, for sure. Maybe to 13 or 12.
You mean hold parents more accountable for the shit that their kids cause, instead of getting them a part time job or enrolling them into sports or getting to help out at the food bank or something.

We all know they can't make these brats pay for their crimes at that young age, they have tried in the past and it didn't fly.

Unfortunately, some of these kids come from broken families or foster parents where there's no supervision.

Umm, the YCA already covers from 12-17. Under 12 the brain has been deemed not developed enough to maintain control when under emotional pressure or stress, or some garbage like that. Basically, if you are only 11 you can commit any crime without punishment. Might still be committed to a mental institute, but you won't be charged.

At least that is my limited understanding of the reason behind it. I only took a few criminal justice/law courses over 20 years ago now so my memory might be a bit hazy.

"Police have charged four girls, aged between 12 and 16, with arson with disregard for human life and mischief under $5,000."

Seems odd that 16 year olds are hanging around with 12 year olds.

Because single father households do a better job of raising them.
There are far more children in single mother households vs. single father households. Look it up.

You could involve the justice system but I think a paddlin' in front of their entire school would be a far more effective way of preventing said shenanigans from taking place in the future

$5000? What a joke.
Let them spend a few weeks in jail, see if that’s where they want to spend their future for being stupid.

D'uhh. Next thing you're going to tell me the earth is round.
You're the one making useless comments by injecting single fathers into the thread.

First, I didn't make the comment about single moms. Someone else did. Second, it is not besides the point. If the vast majority of single parent households are female headed, the small proportion of male headed ones will have a negligible impact.

The system is fucked.

The criminal and family law.

Most kids lack the structure from parents. A lack of parental supervision replaced with daycare workers and teachers promoting whatever they see fit. Parents hands are also tied as far as managing behavior and providing real world consequences. Hierarchy is no longer reinforced. Everyone is equal and there is no such things as losers and under achieving has now become acceptable. Families especially single parent families tend to be worse off than intact families.

The erosion of the nuclear family, outsourcing child care, loss of religious values and access to technology imo are some of the reasons why more kids are fucked.
