x...with respect to Jubee and Whitney Houston, who, by the way DOES have an incredible singing voice....but songs just have to give me some Soul, Emotion, and Feeling
Darlene Love and Ronnie Spector has it for me...........Whitney ? not as much....but the immense talent is there. but for me there was just that something missing....only one man,s opinion

That's why I prefer 50's, 60's, and 70's r&b to today's. Something raw and elemental to the songs and productions of that era as opposed to much of the smooth over-processed, over-orchestrated r&b I hear today.

To certain extent, especially with "Southern Soul", I sense a similarity in its feel to the country music of those years in its clarity, rawness, and musical honesty.

That said I do like 80's and 90's hip hop, and whatever current hip hop my daughter is playing when she is in my car and takes over the Bluetooth.

I will respectfully disagree with you on Whitney. I find that several of her ballads evoke incredible emotion from "The Greatest Love of All" to "Count on Me" from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack to of course "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard soundtrack. That is spine tingling vocals. That all being said she was a pop/r&b-soul singer more so than Darlene or Ronnie and I think that's where you're coming from.

I'm the same. I've already got my funeral music lineup prepared. Hopefully won't have to use it for a while ;)
