Netting running salmon is very illegal, natural resources has the power to take your belongs including cars and houses. Salmon is vulnerable while running up rivers, some areas are open for fishing, but with rod and hook, others are sanctuaries. I hope the guy called the ministry.

I see people illegally fishing all the time. Plenty who don’t have fishing licenses or boat licenses. Drinking on the boat. There is not enough staff to police this.

This is just a lot more obvious. All of it wrong.

And our course you called the MNR TIPS Line 1-877-TIPS MNR (1-877-847-7667) · Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Offices or Crimestoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Nobody seems to be taking OP's bait so far. (That pun was originally totally unintended. I didn't realize it and then I proofread it. It's actually pretty good.)

How exactly are you determining people are fishing without a license? It's not exactly like it has to be stapled to your forehead or anything like that. My dad was a conservation officer so I grew up fishing with plenty of COs, I've only ever once seen my dad confront somebody who it turned out was fishing without a license. The only reason he even talked to the guy was because he was blatantly snagging steelhead in Beaumont Creek. If it wasn't for that he never would have even bothered talking to the guy

A few years ago this asian guy was fishing in the river, cutting open the salmon and pulling out the roe and letting the fish go. We called the ministry, they came took all his shit and fined him.

Are you sure they weren't fishing for dogs?

You can see the signs. The kids “fishing” but are not, the one-day stays, the brush guy hiding hard in the trees. The over limit catchers. It depends on where you fish. You just start to see the signs when you have been doing this long enough.

The guy who posted the YouTube video is going to need a few stitches if he does stuff like that in my neighbourhood. He has a right to inform authorities of the offense. Using his phone to take video of people engaged in criminal acts while asking them to identify themselves is just not very prudent. People who understand spoken English don't react well to self-appointed deputies who refuse to mind their own business.

While I am firmly against poaching, it is rampant during the fall salmon runs, most prevalent are the snaggers. As @Jenesis has said, there is minimal to no enforcement, there simply aren’t enough COs. I’ve spent thousands of hours fishing lakes and rivers across the province and have seen only one CO during that time, and once been stopped by OPP who were checking for alcohol, boaters card, safety equipment and fishing licence as I was fishing. The fact of the matter is it is an honour system. The video shows people who may be new Canadians, and therefore may not even be aware of the rules. I think the person taking the video did the right thing informing them that what they were doing was illegal.

When I see people poaching salmon during the spawning run, I at least derive some satisfaction knowing that the green / black fish they have taken will taste like a cross between a dry old boot and mud.

In all my years fishing, I have never been stopped at all. I keep waiting for it, but never happens.

Why when people can just demonize minorities. At least the OP isn't claiming they're eating pet ferrets.

If I were to guess, there are seasons where fishing is legal for different species as well as restricted areas. Not quite the same thing but that's splitting hairs.

Fishing in a sanctuary or fishing out of season is different than fishing with no license, tho I guess one might assume that someone who ignores or is ignorant of some of the rules, might also not bother or know enough to get a licence.

True but all still against the law and anyone with a license caught fishing illegally will quickly be without one.

GTA & Thereabouts...
I kept my Lund in my garage for this entire season. I'm busy (and depressed). When I do fish, I keep nothing. Pay for the full Sport License.

I hated watching this trash video.

Maybe that’s what he wanted,One of them to get up in his face so he can knock the rag of their head with a baseball bat. That video would get way more likes 👍
