Whomever sequenced that Sid should jump off the ropes has long been fired. The snapping of his leg was gruesome, he's never recovered from it. Funny thing about him, he looked fearsome inside the squared circle, totally affable outside of it.

RIP Sid.

He rehearsed the character in Memphis a few years earlier before he brought it to the main show.

That’s funny. I actually used to watch pretty heavily from like the early 80s until the early 90s. Vince McMahon was just a commentator. My interest was rejuvenated with Hollywood Hogan and WCW, and that’s where I noticed the WWF Attitude Era and I never quite understood how Vince McMahon became an owner. I did some research on YouTube to see the way it really played out on the broadcast. I like how he was pretending he had no idea what people were referring to when they would accuse him of being the owner. That was the spark.

The gradual slide over into recognizing him as the owner was well done.

The problem was getting him out of the way later to allow for other storylines.
It took a while for new "general managers" to seem like characters who could actually get anything done, since you could always just have Mr McMahon come back and overrule things.

It really was. Right around 1996, I saw wrestlers coming out for their match and screaming at Vince McMahon while he was sitting at the commentator desk accusing him of being the owner and ripping them off of their earnings. And McMahon was like “umm I don’t know what you’re talking about umm yeah.” Totally looking suspicious and like he’s lying. And that act was just part of it all. I think I’ve made another post about how I saw this one interview around 1996 where Stone Cold Steve Austin was being interviewed by Vince McMahon and he said, “everyone knows you are the real owner of the WWF Vince McMahon. Gorilla Monsoon and everyone else is just a puppet.”

….but the real coming out party was after the Montreal screw job in 1997 when Bret Hart lost his title. That was the official birth of the character Mr. McMahon…. And it was all based on real shit. That’s crazy! After the Montreal screw job, Vince McMahon just started giving interviews where he flat out claimed ownership of the WWF and said “Bret screwed Bret.” I think the story was that McMahon knew Bret Hart was going to WCW and Vince didn’t want him to take his title with him so he needed to make sure Shawn Michaels won the title. And Vince McMahon made sure that the referee was in on it calling a Bret Hart submission that never actually happened so he therefore lost his title. And this was where the storylines of wrestling and reality started to combine together because Vince McMahon was giving real life media interviews claiming ownership of the company, as he was explaining why he did what he did to Bret Hart. The infamous- “Bret screwed Bret“

Lol i have mentioned this total situation and scenario of Vince McMahon being the owner a number of times. I even found a thread from here from like 15 years ago or even more where I’m posting about wanting to know how the hell this transpired where Vince McMahon went from commentator to owner. I was really stumped on this and I couldn’t understand how this transition took place for what felt like an eternity.

I think I care a little bit too much about this LMAO. What can I say I grew up on Three’s Company and wrestling….

…. Some reading material for educational purposes lol.

“The Montreal Screwjob's impact defined later storylines and rivalries. The WWF successfully tapped fan outrage at McMahon over the incident by creating the persona of "Mr. McMahon" —“

Prior to the Montreal Screw Job, the best event to happen to the WWE was Hogan moving to WCW. Hogan was a political animal who nearly got The Undertaker fired. The he drove WCW into the ground, Buschoff knew it was over when Hogan tapped Kevin Nash on the shoulder. Nash went down for the pin and Hogan became champion again. And I haven't even mentioned how Hogan was a degenerate racist.

Poor Koko Beware, he was so terrified of taking a Tombstone, he farted into The Undertaker's nostrils. Mark is being diplomatic about it.

The Steiners and the Huffmans (Harlem Heat) always put on good shows. The difference between the two, the Steiners are Michiganders while the Huffmans are from Houston not NYC.

Hogan was a sack of shit. Had he managed to get The Undertaker fired, Ted Turner (Owner of WCW) would have bought out the WWE in 2001. I can't confirm it, it may have been the young Shane McMahon lobbied not to fire Callaway.

In the 80s Hogan was huge draw. My favorite match back then was Hogan vs Warrior. Now I look at the match and it’s garbage.

I am anti-Hogan and Warrior on a workrate basis as much as the next guy, but Hogan v Warrior is NOT garbage.
They booked that very carefully to the strengths of those two and it works perfectly well as a major main event.
The crowd heat is great and it gave the people what they came to see.

Is it a 5-star classic?
Fuck no.

But it is a solid piece of work.

Hulk Hogan called Mick Foley out of shape garbage.

Imho Mark Callaway is the GOAT of professional wrestling. I've seen three of his Hell in a Cell matches: Shane McMahon, Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley. The last one is the one that everyone still talks about.

I get that. I’m just saying the wrestling wasn’t great. The buildup to the match, the handoff of the belt to warrior and the overall entertainment was awesome.

I loved watching both of them as a kid , but now you look back and you realize they each had only two or three moves.

It is the one everyone talks about, but the first one with Shawn is the better match.
There is a very good reason why the Foley one is iconic, but that fall (and the one through the roof) basically made it impossible to do a match with any real give and take and story flow. (And Foley *is* very good at that, which people who used to accuse him of being a stuntman who couldn't put a match together never understood.)
