I laughed at the Vance comments. It was actually kind of funny....
But, part of Chicago's problems stem for GOP run states like Indiana, where the majority of guns used in shooting are bought from. And, it should also be pointed out, that Chicago is a fairly safe city if you stick to the down town and north side...But, that's because of major issues from 80 years or so ago....
One, guns always come from somewhere. What is far more significant is where they are used, and what they are used for. Clearly, Chicago is a target range without the paper targets.
Two, I love your comment about Chicago being safe, as long as you avoid the murdery parts (which are extensive!).
I think the point here is that there are serious issues in Chicago, just like any big city. It is well documented and problematic. But, if we want to be serious on talking about violent crime...the states with the highest murder rate is Illinois, New York or California. It probably isn't shocking to know that you have a better chance of being murdered in Red states like Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. But, shockingly, the GOP never wants to talk about that. They just make talk about Chicago, Chicago, Chicago.
There's nothing new about Chicago being a dangerous place. Jim Croce could have chosen any city for Bad Bad Leroy Brown to reside in, but he chose Chicago, because not one person would raise a single eyebrow about Chicago being where trouble could be found:

I mean, you can make the argument that every large US city has areas that you probably shouldn't visit. That goes from New York (where Croce also immortalized 42nd street and big Jim Walker) to New Orleans, down to St. Louis. You can look at the top ten states with the highest murder rate, and it goes:
- Louisiana
- New Mexico
- South Carolina
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Missouri
- Alaska
- Tennessee
- Maryland
- Georgia
So, is focusing on Chicago while ignoring the state of violent crime elsewhere in the US alright?

That they have gotten so desperate as to start waving around "he is lying about his dog!" shows how ridiculously panicked they seem to be.
It's just so pathetic.
Of course the dog thing blew up on them too, just like mocking an impaired child. But being shameless is the currency for them.
