However Shatniks should not be the ones deciding the Jays future. Whatever Bo and Davis Schneider are going through, they would get motivated in a hurry if Shatkins were shitcaned pronto! Fred Ward says, fuckin A Bubba.
Umm... Earth to Philip...a team needs to BE competitive BEFORE they can REMAIN competitive. The reality is that the Blue Jays are in 23rd place in the Majors in won/ lost percentage and 25th in run differential.
At the moment, they have no 'talent' controllable beyond the 2026 season, and almost nobody on their roster is worth more in production that the market value of their cost. Their 'rookies' are all in their mid 20's or older, which means that they have value only until they are 'Arbitration 2' eligible. At or near the Major League minimum salary, they are better than AAA players, but they guarantee that the team will be mediocre, if several are playing every day.
Davis Schneider looked great in one quarter of a season of playing time last year. This season, not so much. He's 25 and good enough to be on someone's 26 man ML roster at or near minimum wage, but he would fetch minimal returns on the trade market. His Topps rookie card will never be worth more than a dollar, and all of his subsequent cards will be lucky to fetch five cents. He isn't good enough to play regularly for a WINNING team.
The problem is that the Blue Jays currently have about 15 Davis Schneiders on their active roster, including most of the bullpen. .
Like mentioned earlier in this thread, if the Jays go on a total rebuilding kick, then the Jays 2025 home attendance will go down considerably. Rogers won't like that at all----LOL
Rogers paid a ton of money to upgrade stadium facilities this past offseason. Attendance hasn't gone down since the trade deadline. A lot of the young professional types to whom Rogers is catering spend more time looking at their phones than they do watching the game. It's not as if Rogers cares a lot about the quality of the products they sell, as long as they sell well. Why should the have a different approach when it comes to their sports properties?

Your shoestring approach to baseball budgeting is frightening lol. So I’m guessing you don’t believe in this young core? I think Horowitz is going to be outstanding. I also have high hopes for Addison Barger. I love his bat speed and plate coverage. This is invaluable experience being gained currently. This is why I think they are a bad ass cleanup hitter. a left-handed starter, and a great bullpen piece away from being in a good spot next year. They are not as lost as everyone thinks.
Would be beautiful if they announce at the end of the season that Ross Atkins has been dismissed. And how beautiful would that be for a new guy to bring in John Gibbons. I don’t care if I’m dreaming, we should all dream big.

onomatopoeia has me on his ignore list so he won't read this...lol, but I totally agree. If just a few of these young bloods can do what they are doing next year, the Jays get another decent bat + pitcher, and clean the bullpen, the team is going to be decent. If Bo has a more normal year, or we trade him for a decent piece that will have a huge impact as well. If Vladdy and Springer don't suck for the first half the season, the offence will no longer be that bad. They definitely need to clean up the bullpen. I think it's 28th in the league or some shit. Cleaning up your bullpen can usually be cheap and the Jays will spend this off season.

Before anyone gets giddy about last night's victory over the 14th place Angels, keep in mind that after this current three game series, the Jays' next sixteen games will be against teams over .500, with 13 of those against teams who would be in the post season if the season ended today. The only remaining games against sub .500 teams are three vs the St Louis Cardinals, (one game under), three at last year's World Champion Texas Rangers, and three against the sad sack Miami Marlins to end the season.
2024 Toronto Blue Jays season
I count 17 games this season where the Blue Jays attendance for a home game was less than 30,000. Three of those in in the last four days, and surprisingly, four of those games were against the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles have had only 19 home games with 30,000+ in attendance, and 11 times they've drawn less than 20,000, (six of those games in April). Average attendance was above 44,000 for their three home games against the Philadelphia Phillies, (the two cities are about 100 miles apart).
