but Trump never backed out based on "poor poll numbers"...Biden dropped out because he faced reality he's not beating Trump...

Poor poll numbers alone are never going to make one back out.
You need pressure from various parts of your coalition to convince you it is a disaster.

That didn't happen with Trump.
There was a brief moment where it might have, but it was deflected thanks to Wikileaks releasing something to deflect the news cycle.

The polls weren't "proven false".

Polls are polls.
The 2016 polls were well within an expected margin of error.
Clinton beat Trump in the popular vote as predicted, by not quite as much as the polling average, but within the MoE.
Trump won the electoral college by a slim margin in a few states.

But even without that, polls are snapshots in time.
That someone is up 10 now doesn't mean they will be up 10 next week.
