Joey Lorperfido and Will Wagner were also included in the trade. Not a bad haul. I don't see Atkins finger prints on this trade.
The astros have had a lot of injuries in their starting staff
The Yusei trade will help an Astros' rotation that has been ravaged by injuries to Justin Verlander, Luis Garcia, Cristian Javier, José Urquidy, and Lance McCullers Jr.

They have to clear waivers first. I doubt any team would pass on the chance to claim Bo.
A massive unexpected return for Kikuchi. Very good deal. Loperfido could be that Teoscar type bat that we got from the Astros. Had a really good start to the year at AAA. And of course we got a prospect pitcher viewed in the #80-#100 range, Sadly with the setbacks to Tiedeman and Orelvis Martinez, and due to our porr system, Bloss might have become our top propsect.
Overall, Shatkins have done a very good job in the returns for the expiring players.
It would be nice if they tried to get value for Chad Green right now, but I assume Shapiro and ownership are pushing for a flawed re-tool, so they are not trading Green as he is signed.

No players can be traded after the July 31 trade deadline. It's a firm and hard deadline (unlike the past).
Prior to 2020, trades could be done in August if players cleared waivers. So the deadline was a "soft" one.
That was the old rule up to the end of 2019.
Now July 31 is a hard and firm deadline.
Deals can no longer be completed after this date, even if players clear waivers.

Houston's former GM, James Click, is the Jays VP of baseball strategy now. I suspect he had a lot to do with this deal.
He showed maturity today. He did not don the home run jacket after a HR in the 1st game blowout.
I think $25M/year over 5 or 6 years is fair. He's probably looking for $30M+. I'd still sign him.
They better hurry before it goes to $35M a year. He's pulling a Nylander.
