Come on, man. They know the secret service were incompetent and they are crafting their excuse as to why they failed their mission. They're also determining who they are going to place the blame on.
For sure the USSS fucked up. But, having done investigations of various sorts, having people make you stop to report on half completed stuff - that later you might change opinions once you pursue all the leads - just makes you look like an idiot later, as it gives the grandstanders ammo to inaccurately portray things. So, run your info to ground, look at the big picture, then identify the problems, come up with recs to prevent it in the future and report it to the responsible bodies.
