During Covid the LCBO was mandated to stay open for fear that people could not go without their alcohol during lockdown and the LCBO employees were “essential workers”.
Well now….looks like the government was happy to deprive people of their alcohol this time and the heroic LCBO essential workers were allowed to strike.
What a joke.
All of it.
We continue to live in ClownWorld 🤡

I am a part-time LCBO staff member who works there only in the summer, so you can guess my other job.

Everyone on the line was very happy with the outcome. OPSEU, in the face of modernization, basically guaranteed everyone's jobs for the length of the contract, limited agency stores, and created over 1000 new jobs. Previous to that, the LCBO came to the table with none of these things cause they thought we were just weak, and wouldnt defend ourselves.

For those who talk about the low wage increase, it was never about money, the pay was always good for the job? How many cashiers do you know who start at $20 an hour and top out over $30 an hour? We kept if public, we saved our middle class jobs. I am extremely proud of the outcome and the positivity of everyone on the line.

Look forward to happily seeing you all Tuesday!

The government agreed to that 1,000 conversion prior to you going on strike. They had not agreed to the other things you mentioned or the hiring of 60 new full time employees. Was that worth pissing off millions of consumers? I guess time will tell. I do know this for sure - I will not be spending as much of my money at LCBO in the future.

No, they really did not.

If people fighting for their rights to keep middle class, decent jobs that we are eroding away in Canada makes you angry, sorry for you. I know it's hard not to look at the situation and try and use it as an excuse to feel superior instead of looking out for your common man.

Haha. I support strong decent jobs for the middle class but I'd much prefer if our government provided the business environment to create those instead of spending taxpayer money to do so. Thanks for playing.

I'd love to know exactly how tax payer money funds us. Really tell me because I don't want to reveal how the LCBOs profits and wages are paid with nontax sources, I want you to try and figure it out yourself.

Skoobie Doo….you remind me of my 90 year old grandmother and her cronies in the nursing home. She didn’t have any education either.
Looks like you are proof that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Why do you hate it so much when people make decent wages?
The LCBO brings in $2.5 billion a year and pays people well.

Why kill this just to have booze everywhere?
Getting good wages for a job that doesn't warrant good wages is rewarding under-achievers on everyone else's dime as a reward for failure.
"When I grow up I want to work in a liquor store"...said no one ever.

The nerve of them wanting to have full-time employment and a share of the equity.

If this keeps up, they might even ask for sick days.
Because scanning a bottle of booze is what everyone who invests in themselves aspires to do as a career.

A whopping $18 difference. And Alberta hasn't had a population boom yet.

Here is an article from 2013 that talks about the negative effects
-They ended up paying more compared to other provinces.
-Created an unfair between bigger retailers vs Small shops.
-The Alberta government is estimated to have lost out on over $1.5 billion in revenue (from 2013).
-The only people happy are the big corps and the winos.

Privatization is not as advertised.
Per capita in Alberta is higher despite being mostly privatized which shatters the illusion that public is the better way.
Add to that more choice and convenience and it makes sense.

Also factor in the expense for Ontario to run retail and operations over $1 billion!

DoFo said the were 'essential workers'.
That means they need to be paid accordingly.

Yet we all go to school to hear teacher say things like "well someone has to dig ditches"

Does it make you mad that the lower educated and less skilled aren't paid minimum wage, or just outright slaves?

It's funny cause I swear the most of you would complain about immigration in Canada, but fail.to connect how privatizing the LCBO would just invite small enterprises who would exclusively hire TFWs at the expense of local men and women trying to provide for their families.

Snow plow driver?
I spent 6 years at UBC, you can guess again. I work at the LCBO to deal with summer time idleness and have lots of respect for my coworkers there.

Another man I met on the line was a retired HR manager of a big 3, who also fills his time at the LCBO. Man was well passed 60s and walked the line with a sign everyday.
