Bottom line here is the LCBO is still a profitable business for Ontario. Why are we trying to weaken it?

More stores, more convenience, more sales, more money to LCBO.
Reduced overhead by trimming down on LCBO operations for retail means more profit.
Combined, those two aspects would generate more for the province than the current arrangement.
Alberta generates more money for the government per capita on liquor than Ontario.

The government makes their money on the high taxes they collect on alcohol. So privatisation is a way to cut their operating cost by a lot.

P.S. i remember about 25 years ago there was a big difference in the cost between lcbo and quebec saq. I know i was living in Hull (now called gatineau). We were all crossing the bridge as every bottle was 1-2 $ less in ottawa. To remedy the situation lcbo raised all their prices on par with saq. Great consumer services...
The union fucked itself and it looks good on them. The government infree market economy should not be selling goods. I am not sure why anyone who doesn't work for the lcbo is against this. It will save hundreds of millio s of dollars

The LCBO retail stores return over $2 billion in profit to the Ontario government.
That profit will just go to Loblaws and 7 Eleven instead.

Second, The LCBO is the best shopping experience. Not once have I found buying beer at a grocery store or corner shop appealing.

The LCBO is a profitable model and provides well paying jobs at multiple levels. It works the way a company is intended to.

Where do private stores get their booze?
While they won't give their profits, LCBO will profit from the distribution sales and taxes. With many more stores, they will make more profit than the LCBO currently does especially if/when they close the LCBO retail stores.
Alberta privatized and the government makes more off liquor per capita than Ontario. The model works and they've been doing it for 30 years.
