I don't think the province is legally or morally responsible for someone who didn't deal appropriately with a substance dependence issue in a timely, effective fashion.
Alcohol is a legal drug. Fentanyl is an illegal drug. Yeah, the individual is responsible for dealing with a substance dependence issue - harder to get clean if the drug you are addicted to is legal and readily available.

The province kept the LCBO open during the pandemic. Is the LCBO an essential business? No - but there are enough people in Ontario physically dependent on alcohol that if they all went into withdrawal and ended up in the Hospital, the system couldn't handle the strain while dealing with all the COVID patients.

Someone who is physically addicted to alcohol cannot stop "cold turkey", as the result could be death.

you got it backwards. First Doug announced the sales in corner stores ( including premixed spirits) and then the LCBO striked because they know they are going to be laid off eventually. But I guess you prefer clerks getting minimum wage to sell you booze and who cares about the increase in robberies, under age drinking and drunk driving that this will produce?
Actually no I didn't. Ford knew negotiations were likely to fail because the LCBO workers are pushing for 2 things - more job security and more conversions of part-time/casual workers to full time. They have been without a contract since March.

Actually Fentanyl is not an illegal drug it can be prescribed by a physician. There is synthetic Fentanyl and variants on the street, those are illegal.

Ok, you're right. I should be more specific then. Fentanyl cannot legally be acquired without a Doctor's prescription; while Alcohol can legally be acquired in many places - and pretty soon will be coming to a Convenience Store near you!

This is great news, lets hope the strike lasts forever :D

Besides the Wine Shops, Beer Store, this gives people a chance to support local breweries and wineries directly.

Honestly hope this is the beginning of the end.

DoFo will have to raise your taxes to cover the $2.5 billion the LCBO gives Ontario every year.
You think that'll be worth it?

Employees have orders not to get involved. It's the same at every retail store.
The LCBO is not a retail store. It is a Government Agency. Proper security measures could be implemented. The employees are unionized. Ontario citizens will find that buying alcohol directly from the brewery, winery or distillery is a much more
enjoyable experience. Not as convenient obviously. And whatever happened to the stores that used to be open until 11pm ? The one at 401 and Weston was great for that. And they had a "clearance aisle" with some great deals.

Sure, if you want to drive 1.5 hrs to a vineyard to be able to choose from one winery at a time, go for it.
You can already do that, of course.

But this isn't about choice or convenience, this is about some corporation or billionaire deciding that they want the $2.5 billion that the LCBO gives Ontario for themselves and DoFo giving it away for ......

Definition of a retail store
a place of business usually owned and operated by a retailer but sometimes owned and operated by a manufacturer or by someone other than a retailer in which merchandise is sold primarily to ultimate consumers

So yes the LCBO is a retail store.

Prove that it will result in them raising taxes.
Or is that more misinformation spreading by you as usual?

So far the only proof of raising taxes are the feds and Toronto city council. To inevitably be followed by nothing to show for it other than Sankofuckup square.

Its possible that DoFo will cut health care and close even more ER's, so yes, that could happen.
DoFo hates the parts of government that people like.

Hey Fakefooter,
More misinformation spreading from you as usual. Fear mongering with b.s. is the go-to Leftist tactic when they have nothing left to say.

First you say he'll raise taxes, now you pivot to cutting healthcare. The facts suggest otherwise.

No one has invested more than the current provincial government when it comes to health care. You just don't want to admit it because it goes against your usual hate-filled narrative.

  • To ensure as many hospitals as possible get funding for infrastructure renewal projects, Ontario has increased the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund by $25 million for 2023-24, representing an approximately 14.3 per cent increase from 2022-23.
  • The Community Infrastructure Renewal fund has increased by $776,913 this year, representing an approximately 10.2 per cent increase from 2022-23. • Ontario's investments over the next 10 years will lead to $48 billion in health infrastructure across the province. These investments will increase the number of people hospitals can care for, build new health care facilities and renew existing hospitals and community health centres.
  • As of the end of 2022, Ontario has approved 50 hospital development projects that will create more than 3,000 new hospital beds in communities across the province by 2032.

The "big problem" you are referring to is with the federal Liberals...but everyone already knows that, even you (you just conveniently leave that part out.)

Ontario received lowest amount in federal transfers
The report found that in 2022-2023:
  • Ontario received $12,643 in total revenue per capita, the lowest among the provinces and $4,034, or 24.2 per cent below the average for the rest of Canada, which is $16,676.

Don't blame the feds, skoob.
DoFo refused federal covid money.

Moving goal posts again back to the pandemic? Are you really that desperate?

As your own article explains...the money was allocated for the whole year and not recorded in the first quarter. In other words, bookkeeping. (YAWN)

btw you should outsource your goal post moving work...you can most likely get a better deal and free up more of your time to go pick up some booze at Metro.

You missed the point again, skoob.
DoFo can't blame the feds for his own lack of spending when he's refused to spend federal money when its offered.
Instead you have to watch how DoFo has driven multiple hospitals into bankruptcy, driven nurses and family doctors out of Ontario and kept Ontario health care spending low per person.

Why do you think most new nurses in Ontario are Filipino?

He did spend it...your article mentioned that. It just wasn't included in the AG's report for the 1st quarter.
No other party in Ontario history has spent more on healthcare than the current one.

just because you repeat misinformation doesn't mean it's true.

Done distracting yet?

What you should be more concerned about is the fact that the LCBO union lied and are now blocking warehouses that businesses depend on.
The public is getting fed up with these unions so doing shit like this is to their own detriment and will only expedite their demise.
