Speeding ticket question

So my son who is a secondary person insured on my policy got a speeding ticket. He was going 25 over the limit however in the officer was nice enough to only cite him for 10 above ... Which means he saves on a hefty ticket as well as the demerit points.

My question is should I still fight that ticket? It's a $40 ticket no demerit points and he doesn't mind paying the $40. However our insurance policy is coming due in a couple of days and I'm afraid that they're going to use this as an opportunity to jack up the premium.

So my questions are:
1.) since he's over the age of 25 and otherwise this is an absolute clean abstract on his part as well as on my part ... Is it worth fighting it.

2.) I'm the primary driver and I am 65 and I do not have so much as a parking ticket under my name. The insurance should not go up by that much. And is it true that if the insurance does go up it's on his portion since it's his ticket?

Online I've read that apparently no matter if it's 10 above or 20 above; insurance companies are simply looking for ways to jack up the premium.

3.) The speeding ticket will only stay on his abstract for 3 years correct?

Pay it.
I'm sure the officer made notes that he reduced ticket if you decide to fight it.. Having a clean record when he got the ticket was probably why the officer reduced it in the first place.
Yes, 3 years.
It might affect your insurance rates if you switch companies in the next 3 years.

Pay the ticket. If you fight it, they will take it back up to 25 over. If your renewal is coming up soon, this infraction likely won't have any effect on it anyway.

This is most likely the case

Also, That shouldn't be that much of an increase online is saying anywhere up to 10%

Pay the fucking ticket. Your son was nice enough to do what he had to do to reduce the ticket and now you want to fight it?

Always try to fight it in court and have the entire thing dropped and never on your record. It’s as simple as the cop not showing up. 50/50 chance. It’s worth it.

Thanks for chiming in ...

I'm only looking for advice to avoid doing the wrong thing. Even before I posted this I had full intentions of paying it and not challenging it further.

The only reason why I'm posting here to get further Intel is I've never had a ticket so I don't know if it's worth fighting it and it's implications if not challenged.

Also your messages is insinuating that I'm stuck on the fact that it's $40 ... I'll pay that $40 with a smile on my face. It's the concern of it going on my record and impacting insurance premiums. Also the son is not doing anyone any favours if he's doing 75 in a 50 zone. He's a dumbass.

The problem with this is if the cop does show up then they'll increase it back up to 25 above the limit and charge me for that and end up costing three demerit points.

What's cheaper. A $40 ticket or a lawyer.

Pay the ticket. Make your kid pay the insurance difference if there is one. They have to learn. Not doing them any favours by protecting them at 25 years if age.
Oh, he's going to pay for it

I would say fight it, but it doesn't look like you'd win. If the cop shows up, it's game over and he's already done you a favour.

No demerit points are being taken, so he's gonna have to eat the premium increase.

He'll live.

I was going to say to plead not guilty and wait for the court date. It should be far enough away that it won't hit your insuurance before the ticket gets to court. Then pay the ticket if the cops shows up..

But I almost want to suggest that him owning up, paying the ticket and insurance increase,if any, would be a far more valuable life lesson than teachin him hw to game the system. Might be more valuable than the cheap way. Hard to teach responsibility if you don't set a good example. 🤷‍♂️

I like the good ethical intentions but let’s be real. Learning how to navigate the system is far more practical and valuable in today’s complicated society where every corner we turn the system is gunning to make us pay and then pay some more.

How much do you make an hour to waste half to full day at court?
Even if cop shows up then insurance will ding you for dumbass.

I paid mine with a smile and didn't get ding by insurance.

Take the car away for 3 months plus pay insurance.

This, he's made a mistake and is a decent human being, just dumb at times.

It's not about ethical intentions, it's about teaching your son about personal responsibility. There is no substitute for integrity.

Thinking you can game yourself through the ever changing system(s) is not unlike thinking you can time the stock market. I'll rather take the proven Warren Buffet approach than the Kevin O'Leary way. Or something like that 🤷‍♂️

So I was on those rate comparing sites and here's the ironic thing ...

My new rates with my current insurance company is $2,200. This is with no disclosure of speeding ticket.

I searched around and CAA is offering $1800, with the ticket disclosed.
