Considering how long this has been going on for and in a built up area, the numbers of civilian dead is actually quote low. Armies kill their own people in peace time, it happens.
All of this has been established except for those dominated by hate just won't see it or refuse to see it.

Academics is a competitive business filled with Type A personalities who are all climbing over one another’s backs for the next funding grant, publication credit, appointment to Department Head, etc.
As such, if you are an ambitious academic/professor, there is literally nothing better than tearing your c̶o̶m̶p̶e̶t̶i̶t̶o̶r̶s̶…errrr…colleagues apart. There is absolutely no group of people more petty and vicious towards one another than academics- to get these people to agree on anything is like herding cats! Thinking that you could get ALL these researchers to ALL participate in a conspiracy across academic institutions, international borders, etc. is laughably ignorant.
The fact that there is a consensus amongst this group of people is an extremely strong indicator that it is true.
