Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he doesn't understand why the federal New Democrats are pulling back their support for the carbon price, though he acknowledges they are facing political headwinds.

New Democrats have long been supporters of the climate policy, and even campaigned on it in the 2019 election.

But this week, the NDP shifted its position, saying carbon pricing is not the "be-all, end-all" and encouraging premiers to come up with new ideas to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

The NDP also backed a non-binding Conservative motion demanding that Trudeau sit down with provincial and territorial leaders within five weeks to discuss the policy.

The Conservatives insist that the carbon price is making life less affordable for Canadians, while the Liberals say rebates mean most Canadians end up with more money at the end of the day.

Trudeau says the Conservative message seems to be resonating with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, but the Tories say Singh is trying to run away from his record.

The Tories have introduced more than 20 motions in the House under leader Pierre Poilievre to scrap the federal carbon price.

The NDP voted against all but two of them.

That is as easy as a piece of cake. Just set a net-zero emission target to
be reached by 2050. Steven Guilbeault approved the Bay Du Nord project
on condition that oil produced by 2050 will be zero-emission oil. Likewise
Alberta could just announce a commitment to zero-carbon oil sand production
by 2050 as well.

The NDP want more carbon taxes on industry and the oil$gas industry, less on consumers.

You may be confusing revenue with costs. Revenue may or may not trickle down. Costs always do.

If you don't pass on your increased costs, you won't remain in business much longer.
Socialists usually forget that within their ideology, you eventually run out of other people's money. Revenue & costs mean nothing to them because it's assumed that the money will just magically come from somewhere or someone else.

yes they view profit= revenue - cost as evil

the odd thing is they have no qualms about stealing the "evil" profits from those who generated the profits by taking risks, hard work and meeting a demand

Unless you sell more at less profit, economies of scale.
Basic economics.

You're still talking as if the trickle down theory works?
Thos is why you should go back to school....you think the industry won't pass this on to consumers?

Sell 10 widgets with $10 profit each and you make as much cash as if you sell 100 with $1 profit.
So which option is better? Either way you make a hundred bucks.

If you can't make more money from selling 100 widgets instead of 10, why bother making the other 90?

May be as a mid ground you guys can agree on selling 20 widgets at $5 per widget for a total revenue of $100 bucks then? 😂

The second one for consumers, it'll be $9 cheaper.
So maybe that business model succeeds.

The libs new budget will tax the rich, PeePee says its an attack on the middle class and the NDP want more.
Sounds like a winner for th libs.
