That's terrible news. He had a huge screen presence. A the great ones in the arts and music are all dying off. We will never see their like again.

It's funny, but when I was a teenager, I saw this movie in the theatre and I remember this scene, however, it didn't mean much to me then.

Now it actually makes me tear up a bit.

Even though R Lee Ermey was an real drill instructor and an adviser on An Officer and a Gentlemen, I felt his peformance was over the top. I preferred Gosset Jr's performance.

I think this movie established Richard Gere as a star, specifically that scene. I remembered it only after looking up Gossett on youtube.
