You are absolutely right about that. Ferrari is where old famous drivers, go to die. 😂

Alonso, Vettel and now Hamilton. All former multiple time world champions, but the former two couldn't do much.
We will see if Hamilton makes any difference at Ferrari. It's said that a mediocre driver in the best car can beat the best driver in a mediocre car. Problem with Ferrari is the Italian ego they have. After the era where Jean Todt had enough influence to let Michael Schumacher, Ferrari has not really allowed themselves to take much design/engineering.strategy input from drivers. Of course, Schumacher was exceptional in terms of being able to cross between the driver and engineer, unless Tody was there to to let and encourage that talent, Ferrari likely wouldn't have let him.

As you point out, Alonso (politely) said that Ferrari sure have some strange strategies.

That's why I have a hunch that Hamilton at Ferrari is going to be tense. Hamilton has a well deserved and well earned ego. And even if he tries to tone it down and be respectful of the boys at Maranello, I think he's not going to fit in.

🤷‍♂️

I also question Ferrari's strategy in letting go a young driver with a career ahead of him, who did well last year and atleast is a good second to Charles, on whom Ferrari has invested millions.
I agree with you to a degree but Ferrari was not going to get much more out of Sainz than they already have, and way less than they could because Ferrari is outrageously tainted by internal politics and if Sainz started outperforming LeClerc, I think Ferrari would sabotage Sainz just to keep the internal politics in line.

I think this will have a silver lining for Sainz. I think he will feel he does have something to prove to Ferrari and is going to use that at motivation to drive hard, while still having the discipline to remain a skilled, tidy and disciplined driver. A lot like Alonso. Look at him at Aston Martin! Driving to prove he is a driver to be reckoned with! Can you imagine Alonso driving a Red Bull car? (Well he and Verstappen have way different driving styes, so maybe the RB car is not suited for Alonso?)

But I can see this shake up being a real boost to Carlos' attitude and personal drive. I bet he bests LeClerc this year and goes on to get a great contract for the future. with who? I have no idea.

Hamilton undoubtedly got more money at Ferrari, and possibly a multi year contract. He will, as a senior driver and 7 time champion, not play second fiddle to Charles, so I don't think team dynamics is going to work out well. Will Ferrari abandon Charles for Hamilton as their number 1 driver? That would be a mistake for their future. Any team, particularly Redbull would want to pick up Charles in a jiffy if that happens.

I agree. I imagine Hamilton approached Ferrari rather than the other way around. Mercedes has been very good to him but hey, if the car is still not competitive, might as well put the Ferrari racing suit in your collection and try something new. I think Ferrari figured the same about a change bringing some new possibilities. Thnking that Sainz is ok, but won't miss him if he is gone. Certainly Hamilton can bring something.

As Alonso said once - "Ferrari has some strange strategies". 😂 Time will tell I guess.

This is a great clip of Alonso's personality! Gotta watch it on Youtube/

Passing Sainz in Bahrain he says; "Yes! Bye bye... this is lovely car to drive"

Speaking of strategies and the differences between Sainz and Leclerc. The video of Sainz' Carlos Sainz's Marina Bay Masterclass | 2023 Singapore Grand Prix

Sainz was more of a thinking 'smooth operator. Whereas Leclerc is a hard charging kid. Reminds me of the old bull/young bull joke!

Now Sainz has been triggered into a more hard charging, thinking 'smooth operator'!

Oh crap! He might be missing more than a few races then, as that requires surgery, no?
Yes he'll have surgery according to the article.
Next race is the 24th in Melbourne, then Japan on April 7.
My guess he should be good for Japan, although his fitness level will suffer due to lack of training.

F1 News: Red Bull Suspends Christian Horner Accuser - Confirmed
Red Bull has suspended the employee who accused Christian Horner of misconduct.

Yes Karen, there are consequences for lying.

Agreed. $450 million of consequences for Don the Fraud! Let's see how it goes with your whining Karen's complaint to the Manager of the Appeals Court ;)

But in the case of Horner's accuser, how do you know she was lying when I can't seem to find anything except some of the alleged text messages Horner sent to her?

RUMOUR-GOSSIP WARNING DISCLAIMER

I was speaking to someone I know in F1 on Thursday. According to her, it seems that Horny Horner was sending her racy/flirty text (WhatsApp?) messages that he thought he could deny were flirty by claiming they were innocent. Clearly messages asking if she ever wore Spanx while standing on her head were inappropriate.

According to gossip and rumours it seems that Jos Verstappen (Max's father) was secretly schtupping the complainant himself, was offended/threatened/jealous or just honestly protective of her and encouraged/coached her to submit the messages to HR. The owners of RB, knowing how vital Horner was to the team were not going to fire him and tried to smooth it over.

Rumour was that Jos became more pissed and anonymously forwarded those messages to the F1 Paddock in the hope that Horner would then have to be forced out of RB for bringing the sport into disrepute. Rival teams, mostly Toto, made some noise about a full FIA inquiry, motivated by trying to disrupt RB in the hope of being able to create chaos that they could use to try to catch up to RB.

Apparently, RB owners knew right away that Jos was behind it. It took their investigators a week to prove that Jos was behind the Paddock spamming. She was ostensibly suspended on the basis that she had no right to share these intra-company communications (or the mailing list that matched her own Contacts/Address Book!) with Jos. And that her actions led to Jos destabilizing the team with possibly severe consequences.

At least that is the rumoured story that is going around the Paddock. 🤷‍♂️

If any of these rumours are true, I see it as Jos trying to get Christian booted out and try to weasel himself in as team boss.

As I understand it, he is always hanging around the RB tent and garage and is armchair quarterbacking 24/7. Again, as I understand it from what I have read, he has no desire to replace Horner. He is just trying to share his insight, knowledge etc. He is a smart guy and likely knows he is smart enough to know that today's F1 team management is wayyyy more complex than it was in his day.

It's easy and fun to hang around drinking and eating in the Paddock and being an outspoken classically-Dutch know-it--all critic. It takes extraordinary work and complex knowledge and skills to actually run a team.

I always knew Jos was up to something. Riding his son's coat tails. lol. Is he still Max's manager? If so Max needs to do what Hamilton did back in the day, separating business and family. IMO.

According to this article, Jos is not Max's manager.

Over the past few weeks there has been growing talk within the F1 paddock about whether Verstappen needs to make a break from the influence of his father, who has been a near-permanent fixture of Red Bull's hospitality unit and garage since his son joined the team in 2016. On that, he was unequivocal.

"I don't see myself in F1 without them by my side for sure," he said about his father and long-serving manager Raymond Vermeulen.

Impressive performance from Oil Breaman.
Are you referring to Ferrari apprentice Oliver Bearman? The Jeddah Circuit reminds me too much of Spa Francochamps in the 80's - they are not good memories.

Bearman is Kimi Antonelli's team mate in F2.

Yup every time there is a new regulation change, one team gets it right and dominates for the next several years. The way Max won 2023, was just boring AF.

And wow, Steiner leaving is sad. Do we know why? Was he fired?
There's an interview that he just made, off the cuff kind. He wasn't shy about it when they asked and they pre-faced it that they were curious so he went into it.
Essentailly he said, he and Haas unfortunately didn't see eye to eye in terms of allocating resources. Steiner felt they should more money into R&D and Haas disagreed and wanted the team to go his way, so they parted ways.
That said, the Netflix team is still following Steiner so he will be just fine in terms of career and not being forgotten about, now that he's the type, I think that's his appeal though, he is 100% about racing and no bullshit and good times.

I'll try to dig through my history later and see if I can find it. Wish me luck. lol

Wish I could find my own stuff when I need to, as fast as I found this video.
