Canada's version of the Backstreet Boys.

"Faded" - soulDecision feat. Thrust

This song hit #1 in Canada and #25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Is this the same band that was behind the hit "Ooh I'm going crazy? I've been thinking lately, gotta get you out of my mind?" 🤣🤣. This was a classic in Canada. I'd say they were Canada's version of 98 Degrees since they had a more hip Hop inspired sound - this was absent from the Backstreet Boys music despite some of the hip hop clothing in their promo shots.

I meant to do this yesterday but here's a few "NEW" themed songs to ring in the new year

First up one of the most beautifully composed songs ever. "You Make Me Feel Brand NEW" by the Stylistics

"Papa's Got a Brand NEW Bag" - James Brown

"Its a NEW Day" by the Skull Snaps

"Old To the NEW" - Nice & Smooth
No. 1 on your list imo, The Stylistics.

Yep "Ooh Its Kinda Crazy" was their other big hit from the LP

And you are indeed correct more of a 98 Degrees sound as opposed to the Backstreet Boys, who were more pop.

The Supremes - Where did our Love Go?

This is actually "Come See About Me" which is my ATF Supremes song. Here is "Where Did Our Love Go", which is amazing as well

Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show was considered a rock group but I find alot of their sound actually has a soul vibe to it. This song in particular, hence my inclusion here. "Sexy Eyes" from 1979/80.

Jamaican born Jesse Green scored a hit with this tune in 1976. At that time he was based in Europe so it had more chart success there UK, Belgium, Netherlands than it did in the U.S.

Fast forward 12 years to 1988 and George McCrae (of Rock Your Baby fame) was living in the Netherlands and I guess heard this and decided to do a remake.

I like both versions. George has a nicer voice to me but Jesse's was the OG.

Just heard this song for the first time in quite a while. Really a gem that was overshadowed by the Thriller hits. This was more like the MJ sound on his previous LP 'Off the Wall'

In 2019 DJ Premier decided to release an album posthumously since his Gang Starr groupmate Guru has died in 2010. There were legal battles over the rights to Guru's music, which Premier (aka Preemo) was successful in winning. So he took some unpublished verses Guru had recorded and made an album out of it. Lots of guests were included including J. Cole on this track, the most successful from the album 'One of the Best Yet'. RIP Guru (my ATF emcee)

Every time Evelyn hooked up with writer/producer Kashif, they concocted heat

This song didn't have as much success as "I'm in Love" or "Love Come Down" but still reached #2 on the R&B charts.

This is one of my favorite r&b songs from the 1990's. I have the remixes CD but this remix wasn't included with it. Just came across my Twitter/X feed over the holidays and I've been playing it pretty consistently since.

This was a big R&B hit from 1992, reaching #4 on Hot 100 and #2 on the R&B chart. Unfortunately Jade couldn't replicate the success they had with this song.
"Don't Walk Away"

This song from their 2nd album was pretty good tho. It hit #20 on the Hot 100 and #15 on the R&B charts.

Nor am I - I purposely try to listen to new stuff as hard as it is sometimes lol.
I once heard that most people's favourite music is what they were listening to between the ages of 14 to 28 or so, "the memory years". Break up, make up, etc.

So for me it's the early 1960's through the late 1970's.

When I'm in my car I have my iPod or a USB stick connected with songs from my iTunes playlists playing all the time.

The only time I'm exposed to new music is when I see a new band on SNL, or when my children are in my car as I let them control the radio, or play their own stuff from their phones on the car's Bluetooth connection.

Otherwise I'm almost totally oblivious to new music. In fact, as much as I love blues, soul, funk, 60's girl groups, and even Disco, today's R&B feels over-processed, over-produced, and too "polished".

Part of being an old fogey I guess...
