It will be a treat to have him for sure, as I am anxiously awaiting my notification of where he signs. But his past six years he’s had a few injuries going on. As I said before, give me Ohtani and give me Teoscar Hernandez….. and I will forgive Ross Atkins for the 2023 season, and I will book an executive suite for a regular season game for TP and five of my favourite people in this thread lol

Is Rogers the richest ownership group/conglomerate in MLB? If not, they've gotta be close.

Blow everybody else out of the water. Offer him $650M for 9 years. Game over for everybody else. IMO, the Jays, as a franchise need him more than all the other franchises. They've all won WS fairly recently and are all accepted as legitimate big time players. The Jays need to join the group of big boys. Spend more of that dough you've made off of all of us.

Steve Cohen of Mets is more.
Rogers is trailing. But yes, good point.

So if we give Ohtani 60 million you do realize were giving him this money for 2 postions. I have no problem giving him 30 mill for hitting and 30 mill for pitching so 60 mill isnt out of the question is it. Plus i think he makes Vladdy better

He won't be pitching at all in 2024 because of surgery. Pure DH.
For that amount of money /year, I would love to see two huge acquisitions to help fill in holes we lost in Chapman and Belt. A 5th starter would be nice since Manoah is no more.

They might well be the richest, but that is because they are a public company which has some inherent limitations as well. As a public company, current profitability is also more important to them than many other teams. Only two teams are publicly held in baseball - Toronto and Atlanta. And Atlanta is less of a spender than Toronto and that isn't changing.

Other privately owned teams (the majority of MLB teams0 might be more willing to take on losses for long term growth or less profit, or just view things as a "toy" and might look more at market value of the team in terms of justifying investment Unfortunately those market value gains in the Jays can't be reflected on Rogers P&L until its actually sold.

But the good thing with Ohtani is he should drive additional revenues in many other sectors of Rogers outside of the baseball team, which I suspect is why the Jays are still in this and coming up with big$$. None of the combination of players we spend $50M on this winter would come anywhere close to contributing to revenues within the entire Rogers group as Ohtani does. Someone the other day said the Jays have two budgets for this winter -- "X" without Ohtani, "X+Y" with Ohtani.

I shouldn’t say anything, and take this for what it is, but as I have mentioned here before, I have family that works very high up in the Dodgers organization head office. Like sits beside the GM etc etc I just asked my source by text “what is happening here did Dave Roberts screw this up? Where is Ohtani going to sign?” And my source said “you know I can’t tell you this ;).”

Take that for what it is lol

I was thinking about this earlier today.

Maybe the Dodgers already have him locked up, in which case Roberts comments are irrelevant. All he said was that they'd met.

It's totally blown out of proportion. You really thing he's going make his decision based on something so trivial?

All the media, who have more inside info than we do, have reported that Ohtahni wanted it kept hush hush and it may be held against an organization of word leaked.

Don't shoot the messenger.

I'm very aware of what the media said. I'm simply saying, It's a pretty ridiculous concept because Dave Roberts said "yes, we met with him" that he would not play in the place he really finds the most attractive. This is one of the biggest decisions in life, and it was no secret the Dodgers were in on him so I find it hard to believe something so stupid would be the reason he doesn't sign.

And yet they didn't send Ben Wagner out on the road to broadcast the away games in person. Pathetic.

If only Toronto had a GM like Atlanta has.

I'm sure it's nothing, but the net is buzzing right now about a flight leaving from John Wayne Airport to YYZ . The planes history is that Otani is known to take that plane. The plane shows it was in Oakland when Otani was visiting SanFran. The it flew to Honolulu which is where Ohtani's GF is from apparently. Now it's coming to Toronto which is an odd flight from that Airport to Pearson, and that plane hasn't done that route before.

Ohtani signed 6 years ago on Dec 8th. Another weird fact.

This reminds me of the Kawhi Leonard situation. Is he? Isn’t he? Where is he going? He went to Niagara Falls? He went to a Jays game? He was spotted eating in the downtown restaurant? Etc. etc. what path the flight took lol Now all we need is Drake to offer Ohtani his private jet.

Yes, twitter is acting very similar to the Kawhi FA decision.

That being said the sudden change in odds in the last few hours to a "Pickem" between LA and Toronto is more closely linked to the "Where would Kawhi get traded" betting markets, when San Antonio was trading Kawhi. At that time, Toronto was lingering as a mid- possibility, then all of a sudden the markets changed where Toronto moved to a co-favourite. Within 24 hours Kawhi was traded to Toronto.
