My mom would give me a dime so that after every haircut, I could buy a comic at the variety store next door.
To my horror, I went one time and the price was raised up to 12 cents I walked home the 6 blocks, got the 2 cents, walked back to the store and home again.
These paper maps purchased at gas stations or picked up from CAA office for members.

Speaking of TV channels going off the air (which I remember), does anyone remember this bit on Toronto television in the 80's which was just filmed by a camera man walking the streets of Toronto filming night time street scenes in Toronto. There was no talking, just music, but the cameraman would walk around the city and just film. He'd film people sitting in restaurants, like he'd walk up and film through the windows, or cars driving in the streets. Usually people would smile back. Instead of going off the air, or maybe before they went off the air, they would show these sequences. It was definitely mid 80's if I recall. I'd be awake and I'd watch this guy just walking around filming. You never saw the guy filming, just what he filmed and the music.
You used to be able to hand draw Tely Fun Cheques which got you discounted rides at the Ex.
