The whole thing is very embarrassing to Canada. And frankly, plays right into Putin's hands with respect to what he's been saying all along about Ukraine being full of Nazis. That's the worst part. That little munchkin Putin will be just laughing his ass off. Makes us look like a bunch of fools.
For that alone, the (former) Speaker of the House, the entire government and indeed the entire House of Commons should be ashamed at how stupid they were. It's like somebody dreamed up some idea and rushed it into production without doing the proper analysis. For that, they are all to blame, but frankly the liberal government the most. It is a well-known fact that a great many Ukrainians (not all) fought on the side of the Nazis. The Canadian officials should have known that the only Ukrainians fighting the Russians in World War 2 were fighting with the Germans. This is not a big secret. It’s haunted Ukraine since 1945.
I've read on here that "well, he was fighting the Russians because he wanted the Russians out of Ukraine". That doesn’t earn him a pass by any means. The guy was fighting on behalf of the Nazis period. We as Canadians and allies can't forget that and let it go. Any way you cut it, he (as a member of the Waffen SS no less) would have been carrying out atrocities against civilians. The Waffen SS were reviled by the allies and were seen as Nazi fanatics. Standard operating procedure for the allies, if you caught a member of the Waffen SS, you shoot him. End of story. This guy got lucky and he lived out the rest of his life in the peace and prosperity that is Canada. Funny how that works.
