Canada's birth rate is going down. The solution = more immigrants

You are wrong. You have absolutely no experience or understanding of this. I have already told you and I urge you to research about it, read about what immigrants have to say about their experiences etc before making assumptions on what you think it may mean.

And its not an unknown executive. Every candidate you interview is technically unknown. You dont get recruited because of your references, you get recruited because of how you performed in the interview. But when that interview is denied to you, or regardless of your performance and knowledge displayed told that you cannot be trusted for no other reason other than the fact that this person worked abroad, then that is racism, not per my definitions, but per the reasons given by employers. Mind you this DOES NOT happen anywhere else, including the US. Infact every country out there actually VALUES foreign work experience. This ONLY happens in Canada, so yes, it is racism. No two ways about it.
I just disagree with you.

I believe in homegrown talent first, I believe in developing your citizens and i believe it's the best way to build a work force. After that, if there is a worker gap we can fill them.

This is why I originally said we need to dump this American approach were you bring in so many people. If you are chasing the American Dream, you landed in the wrong country.

I've been to the U.S. many times and I have many positives to say about the States. Just one comment for now in response to the poster who praises the U.S. over Canada. Has anybody here ever tried to get a Green Card? Extremely difficult/impossible, eh. That is why many immigrants end up in Canada (and then some bitch about Canada being worse than the U.S.).

For all its faults the US is still a great country although regrettably in a decline accelerated by the deplorable.

Canada is a kinder, gentler version.

The case by case judgement is called an interview. But immigrants are often times not even given the chance to interview because, they are not white enough (that is bluntly what canadian experience means). The immigrants themselves are objectively qualified because those things are checked for during immigration.

Labour is cheaper here than in the US. Salaries are literally 2.5 times less in Canada.

Canada has a laid back retirement community mentality lol. So nothing changes and the wheels turn real slow.
That’s a bit off IMG_0892.jpeg

What’s this Canadian experience? Does it require being along suffering Leafs fan or is it just packaged racism?

3 lifetimes ago my travelling companion and I made two long road trips down the U.S. "left coast". We were amazed at the pristine cities like Seattle, Portland, San Fran, L.A. My travelling companion was very outgoing and she/we made many friends in those cities.

Fast forward to 2023, our left coast friends are saying all those cities are now shitholes and have been for at least a decade or two.

Anybody who hasn't been to those cities should go and see for themselves.

Absurd nonsense.
Tell me about it. I haven't even started on the HR stories of immigrant interviews not matching the resume.

If they are as good as they say they are, take courses so you have the Canadian education and take a lower position job to build the Canadian experience. NO, you want to skip the Canadian grind and start at the top. Now that is absolutely absurd.

Canadian Experience is scoring good grade from high school, then getting admitted into post secondary, then pulling out government loans you must pay back, working part-time while trying to memorize 5 books to pass an exam, Graduating only to be told you need 5 years experience for an entry-level position that needs less than 1 year experience, finally getting your foot in door only to be told you need more education, pay an absurd amount more money for extra education because every douche that works Post-Secondary thinks they should make over $120K, payback some more loans, then finally you are eligible for that position you only wanted only for inflation to now eat away at you salary. All while the son or daughter of some doctor or government official in another country that has had a free ride their whole life is crying why they aren't getting the same royal treatment here like they do back home.

That's the Canadian Experience companies are looking for.

I`ll remember them for what they were, never going back. I regularly converse with guys in SF, L.A. and a number of other cities across the States and they all say the same thing. This is what soft on crime, a collapsed health care system with no help for mental illness and rewarding druggie shitbags gets you. Brace for impact Toronto, you`re next.

Workplaces and work done here is nothing special. Nothing different from work done in developing countries or any other country for that matter. Infact, most companies today are multinational, so the same companies you have here, exist in other countries as well.
and there you are very “wrong”, though there are likely better words. How many countries are as multicultural, multinational as Canada…………..One think on that when you say Canada is such a racist country.

two. I tried to give you some ideas as to when, it can be justifiable. You really think, for but one example a newly landed immigrant say from S America, can give financial advice to a family from India that lives in Brampton?

Everyone is moving to the south because it's cheaper to live and do business.

This is why Canada will always suck. There is nowhere to do cheap business.

Sometimes it comes across that way. And NO THEY CANT. Being in the business and all, I’m sure you’re an expert on it.. it’s a simple as this though more involved. Pretend you are going through divorce. Would you take financial advice from a pimply faced grad, that’s never even had children? No matter their paper pedigree

Medians.
And why they are better. I don’t want to bore anyone with technical detail.
o it can be misleading, given Canada's population is much lower than the US. Similar to how Monaco with 35000 people appears at the top.
well I suspect ( I grant I could be wrong) you don’t work with, numbers, data, or mathematical formulas. Because if you did you know the difference between medians and averages, what a median is, and that with medians, “population” disparities don’t really matter.

whether 37million, or 370 million. The median is the halfway point. The point at which for every person above “50,000”, there’s a person below “$50,000

You have no experience or understanding of this. The only thing you have are biases. I have interviewed many Canadians for positions in my firm, and you know how many of them pump up their resumes, flat out lie etc that I had to turn down? And you know how you find that out? By interviewing them.

And no they dont have to start at the bottom. They need to look for jobs at their level in which they are skilled and qualified to do. You are talking as if Canada is in a vacuum. Workplaces and work done here is nothing special. Nothing different from work done in developing countries or any other country for that matter. Infact, most companies today are multinational, so the same companies you have here, exist in other countries as well.

I asked you several questions, you have not been able to answer any of them other than reveal that you think very less of immigrants or their skills and are either racist or xenophobic or minimally supportive of those things. That is not a good faith argument anyone can engage in or attempt to reason with.
I answered your questions with 1 response. They are not going to risk the organization like that.

Fro example, If a candidate did their undergrad and graduate at UofT plus they have the experience, you will most likely lose out to that candidate. Doesn't make it racism. There is a pecking order and if you don't understand that then you are the one lacking experience and understanding.

And pumping up resumes isn't a one way thing.

You are overlooking a lot of things and purposely, then just dumping it into racism.

And none of that is unique to Canada and is exactly the same everywhere else. As I said Canada is nothing special.

The fact that you think that immigrants from another country are getting a free ride, is about the dumbest thing I have read in a while.
Like I said you don't get it.

What's the point of Canadian talent if we are not going to put it first? It's not about being special, it's about paying your dues in the system.

In a lot of foreign countries, you can bribe your way into anything.

That's not relevant to the discussion. We are discussing birth rates and why less developed countries have higher birth rates than developed one's. And the reasons are lack of contraceptives/abortion, less choice, more need for manual labor, less investment in each child. By contrast, here in Canada, we have access to contraceptives/abortion, more choice, less need for manual labor and invest a lot more into each child and expect careers of higher prestige which require years of schooling.

I don't see how anything I said was worded in a way that could be taken as racist, especially given the context in which I said it, but ok.
Canada needs to prohibit abortions and unite church and state and then women will be forced to have babies and we would not need immigrants!

You know whether they can or cannot, by INTERVIEWING THEM. By giving them an opportunity to prove that they can. If they can, then they can do it.

Now I am not a financial advisor so I cannot speak to your specific example. I am not sure what certifications, licenses and other things a financial advisor in Canada would need. Similarly there are requirements for doctors and nurses, which is fine as well.

But there are other jobs, to which the majority of immigrants apply to. For example, lets say a programmer. Code written in India is the same as the code written in Canada, nothing different. Why are those people asked for Canadian Experience? Consulting is the same. Project Management is the same. So you dont need any Canadian job experience for these things, you just need to know how to do it and your experience is easily assessed via an interview.
/sigh

a number of post ago, I said or suggested that that are industries/roles for which it might/would matter. I also said or implied. I would hire an Asian FA, over any other equally or similarly qualified FA for a position in Markham. Because at the end of the day, I am serving my clients needs, not mine. I refuse to get into some long debate it, if you can’t see the common sense in having people that speak the same language fluently, have the same cultural backgrounds, and some other things. Like building rapport and relateablilty. I imagine people of the same cultural backgrounds can relate better..

Would a pimply faced grad from mars know Canadian tax laws inside and out ( I imagine what ever school they went to taught their tax code)…same about family law, estate planning.

youwant to call me a racist? Fine. I call it seeing to my clients needs. If they live in Brampton, guess which candidates I’m putting at the top of my list?

that’s just “my” industry. I’m sure there are others
